Huh?
[quote=“rat_avatar, post:160, topic:616983”]
Huh?
please expand on this?
why does the state care.
Changing the institution of marriage effects the society in which I live. I don’t know how, though. Does anyone?
[quote=“hoopified, post:154, topic:616983”]
OK, lets make this simple
How does allowing one group to marry force beliefs on anyone.
Because the state, the people that make up that state, the culture in which the state exists, recognizes that a child is raised best by a man and a woman married to each other.
Do you have a credible cite for this?
Then aren’t you forcing your beliefs down someone elses throat by not letting them marry?

it forces me, through all kinds of manifestations, to treat gay marriage as equal to traditional marriage.

People who love each other make a commitment and live their lives.
That is the effect.

How about non-liberal website on why allowing gays to marry is the patriotic thing to do.

maintaining the status quo is not forcing anything.

You can’t possibly know this is the only effect.

Oh…I see so your right to not be creepied out that there are people who are not exactly like you in the world means they should be denied the right to be at their loved ones at the time of death?

I thought we were talking about gay marriage?

Yes…yes I can, they are living as unmarried couples right now and the world has not exploded.
Except for getting twinges in there bits when looking at different people than you they are people like every other person on the world.
Including you.

Then why do we need gay marriage?
Nevertheless, you can not possibly know the consequences of changing the institution of marriage.

Yes, hospital access is one of the rights afforded to married couples, by denying homosexuals you are actively denying them of that right.
There are dozens of other examples too, FMLA doesn’t apply to gay couples in many states.

you are equating cedrtain benefits with the instution itself. I don’t know anyone who would not support a policy that would allow death bed visitations by anyone. Still, you were talking about forcing beliefs on others? Certainly some private hospitals may deny visitation rights by gay loved ones, so you are, indeed, forcing your beliefs on others.

You do realize that it exists in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa ,Spain and Sweden?
No exploding churches, no goat man marriages.
Just gay couples living life.

But they are not us. The U.S. For better or worse, we have an entirely different history and culture.
I would rather not become more like those countries. Would you?

No, the fact that, if you were racist, a black man in the lobby bothers you doesn’t trump their right to be there.
Go read the federalist papers, it will make you a better republican trust me.

I’m not sure what that has to do with anything. The black man in the lobby doesn’t change the institution of movie going.
Who ways I’m a republican?
