What is there to do in Sacramento?

My SO and I are going to be spending about three weeks in Sacramento (around the Expo area) and want to check out the city. What’s fun to do around there? We’re into hiking and cool scenery places, shopping, unique restaurants etc. We’re open to all kinds of ideas. Thanks in advance :).

what’s there to do in sacramento? hmm, leave.

lol! I have heard that advice already but we will be staying with the Cirque du Soleil while my SO performs with them so we’re basically looking for things to do during the down time.

Great railroad museum.
Lots to do in the Gold Country SE – from camping (Columbia) to and old gold mining town (Columbia) to Sutter’s Creek to wineries galore.

Drive for a few hours, and visit Yosemite National Park!

(Sorry, but what did you expect for me to say? Check out my username! )

Well you are close to both the wine country (Napa/Sonoma) and Tahoe.

I’ll be flying out to Sacramento to do a month elective at UCD Med Center and I’ve been wanting to see Cirque du Soleil for a while. When’ll they be there?

PC

They will be at the Exposition Center from October 4th through the 20th. Here’s the link.Cirque du Soleil’s “Dralion”
Let me know if you are really going to be there and if I get the usher job I’m hoping for you can stop by and say Hello

yosemitebabe, how many hours is a “few” to Yosemite Park from Sacramento?

Dang. I arrive Oct. 26 :frowning: till the week before Thanksgiving.
Don’t forget San Francisco is a couple hours south.

PC

The Jelly Belly factory is fairly close.

Napa is fairly close.

Go to a Rubio’s and eat fish tacos.

Tahoe is about two hours away if you’re into driving.

That’s about all I can recommend since I actually live in San Jose (about two hours southwest). Oh and how cool is that, having a circus performer for an SO?

About a 5 hour drive, depending on traffic/weather. If you haven’t been to Yosemite, do not miss the opportunity.

If you like art museums, the Crocker museum in Sacramento is quite nice. Small but nice. As Mooney252 points out, the railroad museum is great.

Actually he’s a musician but that’s pretty cool too  (He’s also in a band with me which makes it even more cooler!)

**PosterChild ** It is a possibility that the show will be extended to the 27th depending on ticket sales so check the website before you leave.
Thanks for all the tips everyone!

Well, I attend UC Davis, which is close to Sacramento, so why don’t you come pay me a visit? Paying visits to lurkers, it’s the new trend!

Hey, I’m a musician too! Ok, well, I play the violin but I really suck at it.

Oh, and thanks everyone for mentioning the cool stuff in Sacramento, because Davis can be rather dull at times. I really should go more often.
