I don’t go out much, but…check out the Riverfront Times for music and events schedules–
They’re a weekly free paper, comes out every Wednesday. The events listing on their site is more comprehensive, though–they’ve just recently decided to print “highlights” and leave the complete schedule for the web.
As for restaurants, my personal favorite is Pho Grand on South Grand. You can stuff yourself for less than $10, and it’s very good. The King and I is on the same stretch of road. It’s Thai, a little more expensive than Pho Grand, and also very good. The RFT runs a “best of” survey every year, so you can probably check out what people have voted the best of various categories.
Here’s the “best of” for food and drink from last year:
Ballgames are cheap and a great way to spend an evening. I don’t spend much time in the metro area, but at least in my area (West County/Chesterfield, there are a lot of great restaurants to choose from. The riverboat casinos can provide a good time too. The zoo is free and while it doesn’t compare to San Diego, it is a very good zoo. Purina Farms and Grant’s Farm are also free and good places to kill an afternoon. The Botanical Gardens and the Science Center are very cool. Union Station is a must see. If you like the outdoors, the Busch Conservation Area is great. Castlewood State Park, just a couple miles from home, is a beautiful area. Meramac Caverns is pretty impressive even if you aren’t into caves, and Six Flags is right on the way there. If you are into theater, the Muny and the Fox Theater can’t be beat. I’d recommend the Fox just to see the place. It’s absolutely beautifl.
I also recommend you grab a Riverfront Times right away or cruise their website.
If you can’t find anything fun to do in this area, there is something seriously wrong with you. Everything from redneck fun to high class, tuxedo wearing things. Drop me a line when you are here, and I’ll meet up with you for a drink:)
