Hi all…
I was selling a large accordian for a friend on craigslist, and one buyer came and went. Then today when I got home from work I had an email that read like this pertaining to the accordian ad…cytological snigger mecca salving hem…thats it- just those five words.
Any one of you know what it means? I did not respond to the buyer…yet
If you break the code then you wil find the buried treasures.
Otherwise, it is an attempt to verify you entered a live email account so they can send you falsified sale documentations and try to steal your accordian. Or otherwise steal from you, if they don’t really want the accordian.
well well well. hmmm I 'll just hop over and delete that email altogether, better yet send it to support at craigslist. Thanks, never saw anything like that before.
If this was the intention then it surely was a strange choice of words. Why not something like “What colour is it?”, far more likely to get a response.
I honestly don’t know why they chose the wordds they did. All I do know is that any odd, unsolicited email that comes through an on-line sales venue is trouble.
I know it’s a scam even if I cannot at this point tell you how they are planning on scamming a mark.
Last time I sold furniture on Craigslist, I got messages from people saying that they wanted to buy it, and they would send me a cashier’s check for the price of the furniture plus $100. He would send over movers who would want to be paid up front, so I should give them the extra $100 when they took the furniture.
It’s a pretty creative scam angle I have to admit. I wonder how many people fall for it?
I’m pretty sure that the cashier’s check would be on a foreign bank, which I could deposit in my bank account and by the time it bounced back from the foreign bank the scammers would have my furniture plus my $100.
