what IS this car?

Looks like a cross between “The Car”:

and Mad Max’s “Last of the V8 Interceptors”:

Is it the new “KITT” car? I’d heard they were remaking Knight Rider.

(I mean the last one. I can’t see anything in the 1st link.)

A 1972-1974 Ford Fairlane 500?

I assume the base car in question is some american ford product of the late 60s/early 70s…like a Torino or something…but what is THIS Hot Rod called?

btw…the demotivational link is slow, but comes up eventually:rolleyes:

I’m betting it’s an Australian Ford.

What’s the purpose of the mesh cover over the rear wheel?

Rock guards.

Just noticed…the rear wheels are duals!

And are those twin barrel side-draft carbs feeding turbos?

Looks like a highly customized 70s vintage Ford LTD. Note the grill on this '72.

The first thing I looked at was the LTD. I decided the grille was too pointy, as the one in the OP is squared off. Also, the LTD’s grille/headlight area seems a bit ‘short’ (in height).

Here’s another Fairlane, a '74. Note that the front opening is ‘taller’ than the LTD’s. Also, note the edges of the fenders on the Fairlane, the LTD, and the OP car. The Fairlane’s just seems closer in profile.

I’m not saying the OP car is a Fairlane. I’m far from an expert on that type of car. For all I know, it could be an LTD. Or it might be something else. But in my limited googling, the Australian (note it’s RHD) Fairlane looks closest.

So far.

Would that turbo/carb setup work?
Would’nt there be so much heat given off by the turbos, that the fuel would boil in the bowl?

Yes, it’s an Australian Ford Falcon.

Wikipedia article.

With an Australian Ford Fairlane hood.

Are those bundt cake pans on the front fender? (BTW, I think Enola wants us to *name *the thing.)

It would’ve been an LTD or maybe a Galaxie if it was U.S., but it’s right hand drive. Does Australia use right hand drive?

I’ve seen that vehicle before. It was in a movie, and the people in the movie spoke accented English, but I can’t remember what kind of accent.

It was a really bad movie that came on in the middle of the night. That’s all I can remember.

Ye it is an aussie XB Falcon Coupe, a great muscle car when it had the 350 in it but a dog when it came with the 250 straight six.

And yes the interceptor was also an XB.

The vinyl roof was an option on the series, due to the mods it could have started as a Falcon, Fairlane, Fairmont or even a GT.

Could also be a Ford Landau, but all of them are based ont he same platform.

The more I think about it the more I am convinced it is the Ford Landau.

Yes.

That is all.
