What is this port in the ceiling of my 2011 Chevy Equinox? Driver's side only, more or less above where my head would be while driving

It is not a sound speaker and I was guessing some kind of ventilation port?

Thing is, it kind of clicks while I drive sometimes, I guess from bouncing just a bit and hitting whatever is above it in there. I kind of want to take it out and put a fabric patch over it, but I’m not sure if I can do that in a careful way. I don’t want it to look bad, I don’t know what it is, and I want to be able to put it back in if I was going to sell the vehicle one day.

What is it? Can it come out?

From what you wrote I’m guessing you bought this used, recently?

I’ve never seen this. If used, maybe a prior owner put it in? Or if it’s a stock item, one suggestion is to find an owners forum for Chevy or Equinox and ask there. I’m confident you’ll get the answer there, if not from dopers here.

Probably some sort of microphone or a temp sensor for automatic climate control.

Aspirator. It has a tiny fan and some sensors for your automatic climate control. It’s the fan making that clicking noise.

Automatic climate control? My car has no thermostat settings, I control everything manually. I wonder if I can turn it off somehow. It’s mildly annoying.

Here’s a video on taking it out.

I’m wondering if I can pull a fuse to turn that little fan off. Is it critical? I don’t see it listed on this fuse box diagram. Am I missing it?

Or a government-mandated brainwave monitor so the NSA can…no, I shouldn’t even joke about it lest it get repeated on The ‘X’ Formerly Known As Twitter as a genuine conspiracy theory. This is why we can’t have nice jokes.
