what is this song by gershwin?

I am trying to identify a song going around in my head for a long time. Its Gershwin, maybe part of Porgy and Bess. Is anyone aware of any musical ‘thesaurus’ for popular music?

They exist for classical music where if you know the notes you can look them up and find the piece. Would be great to have that for other genres.

In case there are any musicians out there, here are the notes of the first 8 bars. its in C minor & 3/4 time:

C Eb | Eb C | C Bb C Bb | G G |
G F G F | Eb C | G F G F Eb | C |

I sent this along to my sister, who has a masters degree in music and is a voice coach. Here’s what she said:

My Man’s Gone Now, from P&G! It was hard at first because I had no idea if the notes went up or down or what the values were, but I have a P&G track and figured it out! Took about 10 minutes, sorry to say…

There ya go!

Thats it! Thanks so much to you and your sister. I was giving up hope but the board came through! Heres a bit of it by Miles Davis in case anyone wondered:

I often write down stuff like in the op, to remember it, and simply write the notes higher/lower to show the up/down, but of course that doesnt translate to straight text. Nor have I worked out a simple notation for time values (rhythm). maybe putting a number like 8,4,2,1 (eg 8 = 8th note) and using ^v for up/down would have helped eg

C4 ^ Eb2 | Eb4 v C2 | C8 v Bb8 ^ C4. v Bb8 |v G4 G2 |
G8 v F8 ^ G4 v F4 |v Eb4 v C2 | ^ G8 v F8 ^ G8 v F8 v Eb4 | v C2. |

what an abomination. Well maybe your sister would get a kick out of it. thanks again!
