What is wrong with my TV?

Sorry to pester you kind folk over such a petty issue but I love my TV and I’m afraid that it’s days are numbered… Gasp!

The past few days, when I turn it on in the morning as usual it now:

Turns on, flickers for a moment and turns itself off within a second maybe two at most. I have to do this anywhere from 4 to 12 times till it finally stays on and then works fine as usual.

My guess would be it has to do with an internal power connection getting loose but I don’t know anything about this stuff.

The TV in question is a 29" Toshiba regular tube, not more than 4 years old.

Is this a serious problem that isn’t worth fixing or what I’m praying for, a simple thing that can be fixed at relatively low cost.

Thanks!

Most likely, neither. It’s probably a fairly simple problem (my guess offhand would be a thermal defect in the power control circuitry), but it’s almost certainly not worth repairing–very few things in a TV set these days are. Your choices are pretty much limited to putting up with it or getting a new set, I’m afraid.

It could also be a sticky key on your remote.
Try turning the TV on with the switch on the set itself.

Thanks for the replies.

It’s definitely not a sticky remote key as the TV does the same thing when I use the power button on the set itself.

It also seems to be getting worse, ack…

I’m frustrated that this TV is going to the crapper so fast. Every other regular TV I’ve had lasted well over 10 years and this one is barely 4.

Guess I’m doomed to buy a new one.

When I do, I still would like to try and “save” this one. This would be a home operation done by my bf and best friend (computer tech and gadget geek) for the hell of it.

Any ideas of how I could help them get started? What to look for, etc?

Thanks again
