I work as a Member Service Rep at a new health insurance company. I took a lower starting salary because I was told that I could advance, be my own boss and, if the company grew, become the Member Service Manager.
Two months after I started, the company hired this woman to be a case manager. The medical director quit two weeks later and “the Queen”, as she is called around here, jumped in and announced that she would not mind at all being the interim medical director.
The Queen also decided that the credentialing manager was not doing his job correctly. She hounded him, clocked him, made sure the Executive Director docked him for every second he was late and made his life so miserable that he finally quit. The Queen jumped right in and announced she would not mind being the interim credentialing manager.
Our original member services director was contracted from another company. When his contract ran out, guess who did not mind helping out with member services?
It wouldn’t be so bad if she knew what she was doing! Cover letters were needed for customer mailings. I wrote them. The Queen said “No need to do that, I’ll do it.”
My old director came in one day and I asked him to set up a database system for complaints and he did. The Queen saw this and said “There is no need for that, I’ll make a record keeping system.”
On August 1st we went live. Meaning all systems should have been prepared for customers. 2 weeks ago I spoke to the Queen, telling her that there were serious holes in the Member service proceedure. As it stands, all customer calls have to be tracked on paper forms. The weekly reports will have to be done by hand. Where are all the things she said she was so eager to do?
Her answer? “You won’t have time to track all this on paper because you will also have to be the relief receptionist(!), I’ll get you a notebook(!!) so that you can put the customer’s name in when they call.”
What about the the industry standard response time for complaints? What about welcome letters and cover letters?
Her answer? “That better get done or the Board of Directors are gonna blame you(!!!).”
Did I mention that the provider book had to be delayed for a whole month because of credentialing? Did you know she was the reason the internet was removed from everyone’s computer?
My response was to get another job. My Executive Director doesn’t know this yet, but August 30th is my last day. Call me vindictive ('cause I am) but I would like to see this woman take a fall. I don’t want to do anything that will cause the company any trouble, just The Queen. I need suggestions. What should I do?
