In the last year-ish we had quite a thread on how to handle this topic. I’m not finding it but maybe somebody else’s search-fu in stronger. IIRC the consensus answer was “Style guides vary. Follow yours or at least be consistent.”
When it comes to being a Moderator, there isn’t any.

When is probation up? When someone starts the 10th thread complaining about your actions? 
The probationary period is measured on a geologic calendar. I’d wager full moderator status will be granted in less than a day.
I’ve never seen this famous and possibly apocryphal SDMB mug, if such a thing exists, but I bet my “Real Time with Bill Maher” mug is nicer, and I don’t have to put up with abuse in ATMB.
This mug of which I speak, unlike some other mugs, is widely seen on TV every week in the company of celebrated worthies, lending it a special sort of cachet. I should be clear that I have no special status myself entitling me to this mug. My relationship with Bill Maher is strictly arms-length: I figure I could always use another mug, I send HBO money, the HBO merchandising department sends mug, and the transaction concludes. What I’m saying is, for those pining for a mug, it may be another value proposition worth considering.
So, what was the outcome of the battle between you Mods and the Rockers?

As for being a mod not for all the tea in China. Not that I’d be asked, I’m far too mercurial, vindictive, error-prone, lazy, and choleric. Plus I’m English and find Americans very confusing at times!
Yeah, one of the main qualifications is being able to speak English. Not whatever the hell it is y’all speak over there.
