What is your favorite geek/nerd possession?

I guess it’s a tie between my original Star Fleet Technical Manual and my SFBC edition of Dune that I had Frank Herbert sign when he appeared at the Seattle Nordstrom’s to promote the Lynch movie.

Hmmm. It seems I have representation from several of the Geek Kingdoms:

Comics & Comic strips:
• An original large pencil drawing of Howard the Duck by Steve Leialoha that I commissioned in 1979. It was to be the basis for a promotional poster for a radio station where I worked at the time. The poster never happened, but the drawing — with Howard sprawled on an overstuffed chair listening to an old-fashioned cathedral style tube radio — is still very cool.
• An original Alley Oop comic strip by the late Dave Graue, who took over from Vic Hamlin, autographed to me for a newspaper story I did on the strip
• A custom original drawing by Jack Bender, current artist on the strip, colored by Bender, with Oop and Ooola riding Dinny and saying hi to me, signed by Bender and his wife Carole, who writes the strip. This was for a story on the 70th anniversary of the strip. (Our newspaper has carried the strip since its first day in 1933.)

Science Fiction:
• Autographed copy of Arthur C. Clarke’s “Childhood’s End.” I, as an impoverished college student, had saved for months to order a hardbound copy of the book in time for Mr. Clarke’s visit to our campus in early 1968. Little did I know that he was bringing with him this new book he’d just published, called “2001,” and that it was going to be released as a movie in just a month or so. (He showed us advance stills). I’m still kicking myself for not having money for an autographed copy of the first edition prior to the movie release.
• A first-edition of Edward Bellamy’s “Looking Backwards,” which belonged to a great aunt
• A pre-publication autographed copy of Kevin O’Donnell, Jr.‘s “Fire on the Border,” mailed to me by the author. I’m still stunned by his kindness. (I had fanboy-drooled on him at a previous Westercon because I was so taken with his first work, "Bander Snatch.’

Star Trek:
Starfleet communications pin
Autographed photo of Q (John de Lancie). OK, it’s my son’s. But if he ever relaxes his guard.

Star Wars:
Finally sold, after all these years, a record mailed out to radio stations in advance of release, with five ads for this new Star Wars movie.
BUT I did keep audio files of the four 30-second and one 60-second in .wav format, and I will share with any Doper who wants them. My profile has my e-mail. If you’ve read through all the above egotripping, you deserve a reward

You might as well just email the entire board. :stuck_out_tongue:
