What is your favorite Grinder? ('Sub' for those westerners out there)

At which point I will snap at you, “Yes, I’m saving it for last!”
Touch my pickle and you lose a finger.

That’s a great map.

“grinder” should extend up into Maine a little more. I notice that “italian sandwich” is in Maine. I’ve heard that, but it’s more just like “italian”. Like, “I want to have an italian for lunch.”

Anyway, mine: meatball sub, and it’s not even close. I prefer numerous small meatballs to 2 or 3 large meatballs.

Also, Baltimore is a terrible town for subs. I think it’s because they all get their rolls from H&S Bakery which isn’t a good sub roll.

I could get a better sub in smalltown, Maine than I can get in Baltimore.

It is not! You need to find a single-location mom & pop-type pizza and sub place, and they’ll have good subs. We go to Maria’s in Parkville, on Joppa Road. Great subs and pizza. There’s also a place called Season’s, at the corner of Old Harford and Joppa that’s very good.
Safeway also has some good subs and sandwiches, made to order.

Well, those places are kind of “county” to me. They probably don’t use H&S as a supplier, though. If I’m out there, I’ll hit “Mastellones” or “Pastores” for bread & meat & cheese.

There are some sandwich places in the city: you can get a great Rueben at Lenny’s.

But in Hampden, for example, or Charles Village, even Fell’s and Fed Hill, all the subs are the same, and pretty low quality for being in a city. In CV, you might as well go to Eddie’s. Their sandwiches are all right.

I have never heard the word “Grinder” attached to a sub in my life. What a weird term. It should be illegal.

Now, a couple of subs I like are shaved steak with green onions, BBQ sauce, and tomato; and a good ol’ ham and cheese with tomato, onion, and lettuce, slathered in mustard. And make 'em piping hot.

Where I grew up (Westchester/Putnam cty in NY) we called 'em “wedges”, I guess that’s one of Harvard’s “other” terms…

Put me down for a Italian Combo wedge with hot peppers and dressing, from the local deli, thanks.

FTR, I don’t think of a cheesesteak as a sub or a wedge or a hero, it’s a cheesesteak, completely different.

Then you’re going to the wrong places. There are good sub shops all over Baltimore.

Makes a note: People who try to take BiblioCat’s pickles draw back bloody stumps.
