Wish you were here. Shine on you crazy diamond (all parts) is about 25 minutes of the best music in rock.
ANIMALS! Of course, I love every album, but this one is pretty damn accurate. I’ve hardly met anyone who doesn’t fall into the category of dog, pig, or sheep. Musically I think their performances were some of the best. It’s really, really hard to NOT listen to the whole album all the way through. The tracks are seamless.
I will also say that the song Careful With That Axe, Eugene is perfect for driving home from work or after a relationship ends.
I like AtD as well. More than the Final Cut I think.
Gilmour can do sweet and sonorous ala Comfy Numb and Fat Old Sun, and he can do rough and raucous ala Young Lust, what he’s not so good at is scathing sacasm, that is Waters’ strength. Everything about Waters and Gilmour is complimentary, there’s a lot to like about both of them and they don’t have a lot of overlap, but put them together and you get some great songs that are far better than either of them can produce on their own.
Relics
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn for sure! Followed closely by A Saucerful Of Secrets.
WYWH
That I can definitely agree with. “Comfortably Numb”, “Hey You” and “Dogs” are all great songs because both Waters and Gilmour bring their strengths to the table.
Back in the 1980s, I saw a pirated copy of The Wall for sale on the streets of Bangkok, and as usual they mangled the titles of a bunch of the songs on the cover. “Comfortably Numb” was listed as “Come for Tabby Numb”!
About four or five years ago I was listening to an interview with Roger Waters on the radio. He was asked whether he would ever consider getting back with Pink Floyd. He thought about it for a moment and then said:
“Well, if I thought I had another Dark Side of the Moon in me I’d consider it. But if you asked me to make another Atom Heart Mother I’d tell you to fuck off”
which I thought was quite funny

But, as David - and I am sure, Roger - has said since, AHM was a good idea, badly executed.
Easy: Animals.
Up until about 1995 I was convinced I didn’t like Pink Floyd at all. I knew Another Brick in the Wall, pt2 ofcourse, and someone once played me Be Careful With That Axe, Eugene which was kind of OK, but the band had a reputation of making music that I wasn’t supposed to like. So I didn’t. Until a friend of mine made me sit down in a seat and force-played me Animals on head phones. I was blown away by the seamless transition of voice and instrument. I relistened again and again and started to understand the lyrics. And then I was hooked. I bought every Floyd record since then, and while I don’t like all of them (especially the earlier stuff) I still have the strongest emotional response to Animals.
Funny factiod: I now am similarly hooked to Scissor Sisters and listening to it more and more I keep hearing Floyd influences in their music.
I’m stuck between DSoTM and WYWH.

Yeah they’ve even done a cover of Comfortably Numb.
Animals, then WYWH.
I heard The Wall played so often in college that I have trouble with it. Ditto the Beatles’ White Album.
For me, I think my favorite Pink Floyd album is whatever album I’m listening to at the time. I really don’t think I can single one out as the best.
