What is your favorite show/movie/book really about?

I’m talking about themes, not plot.

Whenever I love a show, it is because of the core themes or trends running throughout it. It’s why I can like any genre if it is well written.

We can put what it isnt’ about, then say what it is about, if you get the idea.

I’ll start:

Supernatural : Not about monsters, but about family and brotherly love.

Battlestar Galactica: Not about robots and spaceships, but about survival and unity.

Harry Potter: Not about wizards and magic, but about family, friendship, and overcoming unfair difficulties.
You?

I think all of my favorites boil down to being about love.

TV Show: Supernatural: Brotherly love, love of humanity.
Book: Gaudy Night: Romantic love, love of learning.
Movie: Pride and Prejudice: Romantic love.

Apparently, I love love.

The Wire.

It’s not about police and drug dealers. It’s about hope and despair, choices and consequences, redemption, ambition, and the randomness of fate. But mostly it’s about how people survive, or fall victim to, the hands they were dealt.

Totally agree about the **Harry Potter **books, and would add bravery and faith to your list.

I love your OP,** Mahaloth**, and will likely think of more examples later.

A Tale of Two Cities: Not about the French Revolution, but about redemption.

i think you’d be hard pressed to find a show/movie/book that didn’t utilize any aspects of the human condition.

According to Lois McMaster Bujold, all her books are ultimately about motherhood.

Aaaaaah. I knew they involved growing up and responsibility, but would never have put it in quite those terms.

Romero’s holy trinity: it’s not about zombies and the end of the world, it’s about interpersonal relationships, materialism, and societal breakdown.
