What is your favorite trivia question?

I know nothing about Nimoy, but I’m gonna guess that the Pink Floyd member is Nick Mason, since he’s the only person to be in Pink Floyd since its inception.

If I’m right, that probably means Leonard Nimoy can make a similar claim about Star Trek or something.

Am I even close?

And I’m sure I remember reading somewhere that the D’Oyly Carte company had a special coming of age party or something for Frederic on that day.

Ohio; burgee

Yes, I meant humans.

You’re answer’s close, but not quite there…although Judy Resnik was the first Jew in space, IIRC.

What’s round on the ends and hi in the middle?

Is it Anchorage, Alaska? With a total area of 1,961.1 square miles, Its diameter is at least 156.9 miles. (Since it is not a circle, I would guess that it is even longer.)

If you meant longest name, then that would be the official name of Bangkok.

Honolulu. Due to a merger of the City & County of Honolulu, Honolulu includes the Northwest Hawaiian islands, which means that the city stretches from Oahau almost to Midway.

Which is the only state of the US, no part of which has ever been under a foreign flag (ie not owned by any foreign power)? (Amerind nations, the CSA, and the Republic of Texas do not count as foreign powers for this purpose).

The only one I can think of would be Hawai’i (assuming that the former Kingdom of Hawai’i would constitute an “Amerind nation”).

Washington?

What country besides Canda and Mexico is closest to the United States?

Hawaii was British wasn’t it?

Kathleen Sullivan.

(An easy one for me. She’s a friend of mine.)

IIRC it was visited from time to time by British mariners, but the Empire itself never successfully claimed the islands.

She was the first American woman to perform a spacewalk. Svetlana Savitskaya of the USSR beat her by a couple of months (although, in honesty, I don’t think either woman particularly cared about who had gone first - a spacewalk is a spacewalk, and must be an incredible thing to do no matter if you’re #1 or #1000).

Cuba

Nope, Cuba is third.

::: puts on thinking cap:::
Russia. IIRC the US and Russia have two islands about two miles apart in the Bering Sea. Little Diomede and Big Diomede. According to Wiki they are 2.4 miles apart.
I doubt you can find any closer, and if Cuba is #3, I am at a loss for #2.

Correct! The Bahamas are closer to Florida than Cuba… I think.

Who was the 85th person to fly across the Atlantic? (Hint - you have definitely heard of him.)

Charles Lindbergh - he was the first to fly solo non-stop.

D’oh! I knew that she was known as the first American woman, so I should have realized that there was someone (probably Russian) ahead of her. But I had never heard of Ms. Savitskaya. Good one!
