How are you connected to the world wide web?
If your vote is “Other”, please elaborate.
I had a DSL until Bell Canada decided that they could take a week to repair my broken outside phone cable. Now I get my phone service and internet from the cable company.
Other - Fixed Wireless
A big freakin’ tower transmits to a radio antenna mounted on my house.
I get access, both at home and at the office, via the university’s ethernet (or occasionally, the university’s wi-fi, when I bring my laptop up to the office). I live in an on-campus apartment, and the university’s service is both cheaper and faster than any other broadband option in town.
Other - Wireless router with cellular internet via Millenicom which operates on Verizon towers.
10GB upload/download limit for the whole house so we do video but we don’t watch tv or movies via web.
Used to be dial up.
I used to have cable, but my cable company pissed me off endlessly (Comcast). So I got DSL with our phone company have have been extremely pleased.
You forgot fiber optic.
I have 6-megabit-per-second DSL. I used to have 10 Mb/s cable in Toronto. I’m thinking of upgrading to fibre at an additional $5/month.
That would be under “cable”.
University Gigabit Ethernet.
Another ‘other’ for FiOS - which is fiber - and completely different technology than cable internet.
I also use portable Wimax from Clear when out and about - 6/1 mbps.
Fiber here. AT&T Uverse.
Cable at home, 3g modem or iphone as internet tether on laptop or as direct access.
Otara
Currently WildBlue satellite, with a dialup account as backup. Seriously considering switching to Alltel USB broadband, as I rented a stick for a recent trip and liked it a lot. Then I’d be able to take my connection with me, and (theoretically) no outages in weather stronger than a mild rain. Win/win.
I voted Other, meaning FIOS. FIOS is not the same as cable modem. We don’t share bandwidth the way we did with cable modem.
I have AT&T U-Verse, so I chose DSL, since the U-Verse router is basically a big-ass DSL modem.
Cable at home. 3G modem at work.

How fast is it?
