No, not “how many movies have you seen in X months”, more like “what % of movies have you seen in theaters that you enjoyed?”
See, I seem to have a ‘Spider sense’ when it comes to wanting to see movies I like. Who knows, maybe the folks that make trailers are scanning my brain waves reaches for tinfoil hat but then again, why knock it? puts tinfoil hat back in tinfoil safe
I’d say about 99% of movies I see I enjoy. Though it might also be because I’m easy to please. It is kind of hard for me to consider a movie bad, they might be boring, but I rarely see bad movies. In fact, I have such a shortage of movies that are laughably bad I have to go actively search for them, because I never seem to blunder into a bad movie.
Or maybe I have really low standards. Recent films I’ve seen and loved (just this month):
I like 99% of the movies I see. And if I see one that I don’t like, 99% of the time
it’s because the whole so much hype it could never live up syndrome.
I worked at a HUGE movie theater for 3.5 years. During that time, I probably viewed over 200 movies a year in the theater. There were some great years. I be willing to say that I’ve probably seen between 50 and 100 movies in a row several times and enjoyed everyone. But like I said, I’m pretty easy to please, and with very few exceptions I’ll watch anything.
This year so far I haven’t seen a bad one, but I’m also not viewing at least one a day anymore. One’s I’ve seen (and loved):
Kill Bill
Van Helsing
The Passion
Dawn of the Dead
Hellboy
Starsky and Hutch
Mean Girls
Return of the King (although only the 3rd viewing this year, other 2 were last)
Good to see another easy going movie fan. I have a feeling that my streak might be broken this week by Shrek 2. (I did not like the first one, but will give the second one a fair chance.)
My percentage is pretty good. Since movies here are so expensive (typically $18 for one person) I only go to the theatre to see movies I’m positive I’ll like. The only exception is the tiny local theatre that shows double-features for $13. For that, I’ll sit through a mediocre movie if the other looks good.
This year, I’ve watched:
Kill Bill 1 & 2 (enjoyed very much)
Underworld (doubled with Kill Bill 1, I probably would have waited for the video release otherwise)
Return of the King (very good)
Hero (Like many Zhang Yimou films, it made no sense, but looked great doing it)
Pirates of the Caribbean (very good, doubled with Hero)
Matrix: Revolutions (not nearly as good as I hoped. I loved Reloaded and was majorly let down here)
The Last Samurai (good)
City of God (very good)
One day in 1987 I watched Cry Freedom (157 min) and The Last Emperor (160 min) back to back.
This year in theatres I’ve seen;
Big Fish
The Perfect Score
Mystic River
The Dreamers
Against the Ropes
Welcome to Mooseport
Twisted
Club Dread
The Prince and Me
Mean Girls
Ella Enchanted
Secret Window
Laws of Attraction
Van Helsing
Love me if you Dare
Troy
Shrek 2
I’ve missed a lot of movies this year so far.
Oh I dont’ have to pay to see movies so that is not an issue.
You might want to rephrase your OP a bit–IME, there are any number of films that I can’t say I enjoyed, but that I’m glad I saw. (Case in point: Cremaster 5.)
My percentage is not as high as I’d like. I generally see about 20 movies in theaters a year, and like maybe 60%. But I love going to the movies, so sometimes I’ll see a movie I know will be a turkey just so I can go. The Matrix sequels fall into this category.
Sometimes my wife will rope me into going to a chick movie that I know I won’t like, and don’t (Alex and Emma, How to Lose a Guy), so maybe they shouldn’t count.
My list for the past year:
Pirates of the Carribean +
Bend It Like Beckham +
Van Helsing -
Matrix Reloaded -
Matrix Revolutions -
Kill Bill Vol 1 +
Kill Bill Vol 2 +
X-2 +
Gothika -
Return of the King +
How to Lose a Guy… -
American Wedding +
Cold Mountain +
Master and Commander +
Underworld -
Cabin Fever -
A Mighty Wind +
Alex and Emma -
I Capture the Castle +
Peter Pan +
Some of the movies I want to see disappear from theaters too quickly, so that I have to wait for the DVD. I end up liking most of them. Examples:
Morvern Callar
Pieces of April
Secret Lives of Dentists
