In fact, i thought I’d participated in that thread, and it has ended with a video of a cat jumping incredibly high. But that thread was probably before my time, and i didn’t post in it, and it doesn’t include the video.
I probably saw this thread:
The video in the first post is no longer there, but the one linked ~post 33 is, and it’s worth watching:
Was the second cat in the frame during the first segment? I didn’t even notice it until well past the one minute mark.
Why are we arguing about @Blake? He doesn’t exist. No reputable journal has ever posted any paper saying that he exists, and all of the testimony that he does is purely anecdotal.
Really. Get back to the original subject of the thread … pitting @Chronos ! ![]()
Has @Stranger_On_A_Train R-U-N-N-O-F-T ? It’s been just over a month since this thread was started, and almost a month since Stranger’s last post on these fair boards. I hope everyone is able to move past any remaining unpleasantries, and our smart posters remain engaged here (c’mon back).
There have been a few times over the years that I’ve been here that he has left for months (apparently in a huff, at least it is usually after a comment or thread was critical of him) then showed back up again later.
(Or, in his penchant for movie references)
I’ve provided conflicting material to both Chronos and Stranger on a Train and in my experience… well it was fine.
If that’s too soon, he can leave in a minute-and-a-huff.
Here’s me defending Blake in 2016. I had done the same in 2012. Now it’s 2025, and bullshit dies hard. I won’t go into it again, but absolutely stand by the first two sentences of my linked post.
Blake said that it was flatly impossible for a cat to jump 5’ high, even with almost everyone else in the thread assuring him that they’d seen it themselves, posting cites to that effect, and eventually even videos. He wasn’t “essentially correct”, and in fact he explicitly rejected the notion that could be argued to make him “essentially correct”: He specifically said that a factor of 2 difference was too large of a difference to qualify as “about a meter”.
Chronos. Take a peek at the video @puzzlegal posted in this thread. At the 56 sec mark, the cat’s back feet just about reach the bottom of the fireplace mantel. Well below the man’s nipples. Then the feet are pulled up and the cat’s body rotates, but that’s the actual height of the jump. And it’s not 60” unless the guy is 2 meters high. That’s about the 48” that I mentioned in my linked post.
I hate to explain it to someone that I regard as much more evidence saavy than myself, but a human that dunks a basketball isn’t jumping 10 feet, and a giraffe that gets 12 inches off the ground isn’t jumping 19 feet.
More than a meter, though. And some do get close to 2 meters, which Blake said was right out.
There are times when people might be “essentially correct”. That was not one of them. Not remotely or even “essentially”
“Some get close to 2 meters”? Please provide video evidence. Please review the earlier threads.
It’s Blake’s first fucking post in the thread. He doubts a cat jumps even 4 feet. This is not some nitpicky shit. He was just flat out wrong from the start and doubled down hard (seems to be a common trait, come to think of it…).
And you Mr. Antibob, couldn’t even bother to read my linked post in this thread.
Yes, I read it (and you need to do better with the links within the quoted post - the one inside the post from 2016 no longer works properly with the current incarnation of the board). Now what? I admit I did not read it correctly?
Your own post had to do a lot of leaping itself (of logic) to get to the point where Blake was within something resembling almost correct.
So, no, I fucking did not read it incorrectly. Happy?
Let me be sure I have this right - you two are getting upset arguing over a claim from nine years ago by a poster who is long disappeared from these boards?
Okay then. Carry on!
Fair point - it’s another pointless internet argument
Though, for the sake of accuracy, I’m more upset at the current poster claiming other current posters are dishonest and engaging in groupthink. I don’t actually care about Blake, except to the extent it’s relevant to that point
