What is your problem, Chronos?

Continuing the discussion from If something is "dropped" from ISS altitude, do we need to worry about it burning up on re-entry:

What exactly is your fucking problem with me, and your endless attempts to try to ‘correct’ me on things that I’m not wrong about? It’s an obnoxious, antagonistic, and frankly kind of a weird obsession with you. So what is the issue? Did I steal your parking spot? Take the last doughnut in the breakroom? Leave the toilet seat up? What is your malfunction?

Stranger

@Stranger_On_A_Train for some reason I can’t PM you… did you really mean this to be in FQ?

Isn’t Chronos’ response “Attacking the poster” in FQ? As such, just report it and let the mods deal with it.

It is intended for the Pit and I’ve already flagged it for moderation.

Stranger

Moved to the pit.

“Way to avoid answering the question” meets your bar for “attacking” a poster?

It’s not really relevant. Stranger said he intended to start this thread in the pit, and flagged it with a request to move it. And it was pretty obviously not an FQ OP.

Saint cad said that Chronos was attacking the poster, not Stranger.

Oops, never mind, carry on.

Stranger, I hope you take the following in the spirit of helpfulness in which it is offered. I consider you one of the most erudite and enlightening posters on this board. You provide many lengthy explanations on complex topics, and I thank you for that. But…you really do get your hackles up when you perceive someone is challenging or even trying to qualify a point you make in your posts. There are also many other really smart posters on this board as well, and sometimes they have a different opinion, perspective, or fact that is different from yours. You probably shouldn’t reflexively assume that they are “attacking” or have some sort of issue with you. You aren’t infallible. As Babale suggested, “way to avoid answering the question” is pretty tame as far as confrontation goes on here, does it really need it’s own pit thread? I’ll leave that for you to decide but, for me at least, your reaction is really excessive and kind of puzzling here.

A: It was a question, not a statement. So the correct verb is “asked”, not “said”. Almost as if I was not sure and was asking a question.
B: It was in regards to being in FQ. There are different standards in different fora.

I thought Chronos’s comment was pretty unhelpful, especially in FQ. If he had something to add or change in Stranger’s answer, he could just say: “I’m not sure that’s what the question was” or “That’s one way of looking at it, but I think the question is…, and here’s what I think the answer is.”

Way to completely miss the forest for the trees.

:index_pointing_up:another example of a statement that is not a personal attack

I find it darkly Ironic that stranger is complaining about other people being condescending, antagonistic, arrogant nags with an axe to grind.

Another example of an unhelpful answer. Fine for the Pit, but not for FQ.

How about, “I think you’re missing the bigger picture here”

I think there is a vast gulf between “not the most optimally helpful phrasing that could have been chosen to minimize conflict” and “inappropriate for FQ” and then another vast gulf between that and “Personal attack”.

Chronos’ phrasing was a little bit caustic and sarcastic. Big fucking deal. If you can’t handle that, you probably shouldn’t be on the Internet without mommy and daddy prechecking the sites you’re allowed to go on.

Chronos’s comment seemed bitchy, and Stranger says there’s been a sequence of similar remarks. However, I’m not going to attempt to find who “touched me first!”

It seems like Stranger should just report any such bitchiness to the mods.

…and the question about dropping things from space station height, but at space elevator velocity, was rather confusing and “multi-level”. Partial answers seemed okay to me.

What’s the point of causing all that friction in FQ? Just to show that you’re so internet cool and sarcastic? Politeness doesn’t cost you anything in a forum like FQ and keeps the conversation on track.

TLDR: Fuck you, asshole.

Way to strawman just to create conflict where none exists. Good job doubling-down on your stupidity.

Which is where it currently is.

Yeah Stranger’s answer was interesting but to my (limited) understanding not answering the question. Chronos could have said that less obnoxiously. But unless this is actually about some longstanding pattern of behaviors between each other seems pretty minor to get upset about.
