Wow, let’s see.

Never really worked in high school. I was in band and that took up all my spare time most of the year. Thankfully, parents didn’t think I’d ‘learn something’ from doing a fast food job and decided to let me enjoy my high school summers off. I think that was a good decision. Being part of a competitive band program taught the same level of responsibility as a 4.00 an hour fast food job without a manager making you work late hours because some other slug called in.

College. Worked at Red Lobster for most of my first couple of years. As I got into my junior year classes, I left. Got sick of the late hours and it was hurting my grades.

Post College.

I made the mistake of thinking, “I’ll go to grad school” in a year or so and got stuck in an endless series of dead end customer service jobs. Worked as a reservation agent for Alamo Rent-a-Car, customer service for American Express, reservation agent for Marriott Hotels, customer service for Yamaha Motors, and some various other jobs.

Finally, got sick of the call center environment. I took a temp job scoring standardized test essays and ended up spending a few years in that industry. I managed a standardized test scoring center.

The feast or famine aspect of that job finally got to me. A major online brokerage company was hiring, so I applied and got hired. I passed my series 7 and 63 and I’ve been in the industry ever since.
