You sure about the location of the yellow bits? The size, location, and behavior you describe remind me of the hooded oriole. I saw them when I was in Cabo last year.

Most avid birders are pretty evil :). I was just around a swarm of them ( king tides in CA this weekend ) and the poor park ranger trying to keep them out of protected wetland verges looked at times like he was herding cats.
