What kind of computer do you have?

Do you have a mac or windows?

Linux

I have a Mac. A iMac to be exact. MACS RULE!!!

Windows is so kewl. I don’t like the iMac for one reason, when they crash (ohh I’ve seen it happen so many times) the power button stops working and you have to unplug it to restart it…fun

yah RESOL all you have to do is use the easy access ‘programmers buttons’ on the side of the computer. Or you could possibly use the ‘Ctrl+Open Apple Key+power button’ then it will automatically turn off.

Ok, it’s not a super powered system, and I’m a little behind in the kernel game…

on reconsideration.

2 x Windows machines, as I use them mainly to interchage work with other Windows users and converting files back and forth between Win and Mac versions is a pain.

In a perfect world, the Mac would dominate, and I prefer it, but have grown used to the eccentricities of Windows and live with it.

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Don, tell him what he’s won.

Well, Bob, Kyberneticist has won an all expense paid vacation for one to IMHO! That’s right, three sun-filled days and four exciting nights in the land of opinion.

Heh… I’ll open the bidding for most pathetic computer system:
Pentium 120 with 48megs and 1.2gig HD

I have a whole bunch! …

Ones of note:

My baby - Dual PPro 200 (running 2000 advanced server)
My game machine - AMD K6-2 450 (running Millenium)
My file server - dual 486-dx2 50 PS/2 server - running 3.51
My ‘kids’ old machine - Mac Quadra running MAC OS 7.5.1
A Treasure - a MAC Plus w/ external hard drive
plus a whole shatload of 486’s, pentiums, dual pentiums, 386’s … even a running 8088

Hmmmm, my systems.

Amiga3000 - my baby, to be coddled as it can be.
PII:450/256MRam/30GigHD; My Linux box, a hobby system to be played with as I learn Linux.
PIII:500/512MRam/60GHD(2 30Gigs); My work programming machine, Labview/Office/Network plaything.
PIII:750/348MRam/30GHD; My Game machine, with Nvidea GForce GTS, SBLive Platnum, DVD, 21" Monitor and other goodies.

Next up is a Sony Viao laptop when I have the money put aside.

I’ve got Win95. My machine might be dated, but at least it’s slow.

Jophiel- My mom’s machine can compete with yours. She’s got a Power Mac 7200: 75MHz processor, 96MB RAM, and a 500MB hard drive. She’s still running System 7.5.5.

As for me, I’ve got the original graphite iMac.

I don’t get you Mac people. You’re tying yourself to a single company. And that ignoring the freedom of choice issue for now. If any of Microsoft, Intel, AMD, or any hardware company went bankrupt today, my computers would still have a valid upgrade path, and I could still build a new one. I guess different things are important to different people.

Gosh, don’t you know that we “Mac people” enjoy having limited options? It’s so much easier that way. However, we do live in fear of Apple collapsing-- heaven knows our computers will be worthless when that day comes. Also, we’re total lemmings. We do whatever the mothership tells us to do.
I apologize for the sarcasm, but I can’t help it. That “Mac people” comment is unnecessary and uncalled for in this thread, and when you get down to it, it doesn’t make a damn difference what platform you use.

Before you dismiss me as a Mac freak/apologist: I am not nearly the Mac nut <snicker> I was a couple years ago. If someone developed a superior OS, I’d gladly sell my Mac at home and switch. But it hasn’t happened yet.

BTW, I am posting this message using an HP Vectra running Windows 95.

I have a couple. They are both ‘gaming machines’ but one of them was made a year and a half ago, the other half a year ago (I get a new computer whenever I get my yearly stock options).

They are:

450Mhz PIII, 128MB RAM, 8 GB HD, v770 32MB TNT2 3D card

800Mhz PIII, 256MB RAM, 20 GB HD, GeForce 256 3D card

The first one cost me an even grand, the second $1200.

Audrey, it wasn’t an attack. It was simply a statement which I thought would add to the discussion here.

I didn’t want to start a new thread for it, because that would undoubtedly turn into a mac vs pc flame war. And one that’s been done to death at that.

The term “Mac people” was not meant to be derogatory in any way. Substitute “Pepsi” or “Chevy” for “Mac” and you get the same idea, about different products.

Now that I see it might be a good discussion topic, I’m going to start a thread about brand loyalty.

TheNerd:

You know, when I wrote that, I was feeling rather sour. I’ve had a rather long and crappy day, and I think I took it out on you. For doing that, I’m sorry. I’ve never done that before, and I’m ashamed to have done it in such a public place.

I just got home and wanted to post this to you right away. I thought about the whole thing on the way home, and decided I really should take my anti-bitch pills in the morning from now on.

I agree, the PC vs. Mac thing a topic that’s been done before, and beaten to death. I will check out your brand loyalty thread, though, and maybe contribute to it if I’ve got something to add.

Again, I’m sorry.
