All the private tutoring I’ve looked into requires a teaching certificate or a degree + tutoring experience. The tutoring at my school just requires As in the subject you’re tutoring.
What is the big problem slinging burgers to make a few extra bucks?
Army Reserves. As you state, you are a student, I am assuming college student. You could get your tuition paid for plus about $500 a month for one weekend a month. Also, if you qualify, you could be non-deployable for up to 4 years. There also may be a cash bonus for you.

It was not much back in my day, and often so sporadic that it was just good for some beer money. But the experience was good, and I made a lot of good friends. (One blind student kept a keg in his apartment, and we’d slowly sip some brewskies while I read to him.) If I hooked up with a regular client of the Commission, someone who just needed me to read a textbook for him or her into a tape recorder, I could do it at home at my leisure, as long as I kept up with what needed to be read by such and such date. Since that was more steady, it ended up being a bit more in the long run. Much of it was stuff I was interested in anyway, like Chinese history or anthropology, so it was almost like I was reading for myself.
Amusement park?
I know that I worked Six Flags over the summer in Dallas, and that plenty left when school started up - they run pretty consistently on weekends in the fall. Any place like that should be looking.
Security guard?
Some of the security personnel where I work only work one or two shifts on the weekend. I think that they make about $10 an hour, which is more than most retail jobs around here. The ones where I work are unarmed. One of them does a walk through on the hour checking for things like fire or leaks and they spend the remainder of their time at the metal detectors (we have employees in the repair center on weekend shifts). Not overly taxing.
My husband used to work as a “night auditor” in a hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. They were very happy to have someone work those graveyard shifts. He would go over the day’s receipts and such, I gather, as well as work the front desk and check in latecomers and check out early-departers.
You can be a weekend night auditor at a hotel - essentially you sit around and read a book for most of the night. I have a friend who’s the night auditor for the rest of the week, and he works Sunday through Thursday nights 11-7 and the weekend guy works Friday and Saturday night.
Damn it, I didn’t read the post directly before me. Anyway, it’s still a good idea, and they do have people who work only those weekend shifts. They’re always looking for people.
