What kind of spider is this?

I was cleaning up my spare room for my boyfriend’s new home office and saw this cool spider on the other side of the window. For some reason it uploaded sideways, sorry. So I told him, “Hey, I found you a cool spider!” but for some reason he didn’t seem too thrilled.

What kind of spider is it? It isn’t one of the ones I’m used to seeing, although I’m also not usually that close to external window frames. I’m assuming those little things are the dessicated corpses of its prey - what’s the other thing? Could it be an egg sac?

Orb weaver with spawn and probably empty egg sac. Them ain’t victims, they’s babies.

Looks liek an egg sack, and the little things kinda look like little spiders. Lots of them. Have fun!

Wolf spiders carry their babies on their backs. Quite a sight if you disturb Mom. The babies scatter and it looks like there’s a million of them!

Oh, the orb weavers I usually see around here are the big ones!

Does she feed them?

Of course, that’s why they nest so close to houses. …have you checked on the children?

I don’t have any. I mean, I didn’t have any before, either.

I believe your little friend is an American House Spider.

They make messy little webs, but I have a soft spot for the wee beasties. When I am cleaning I usually end up vacuuming up their webs and the insect carcasses underneath, but I try not to kill the spiders.
