The area I have the most knowledge in (not an expert tho) is snakes commonly kept in captivity. Boids (boas, pythons) mostly, with some knowledge in Colubrids (rat/corn snakes, etc). A wee bit of info on venomous, but not much.
I know quite a bit about linguistics, and various tidbits about various languages.
I spose I’m an expert on the band Weezer. I am also an expert on John Lennon’s life since I had to do a report on him not more then a month ago and I had to read an 800 page book on him.
'nother programmer here, though calling oneself an expert in this field is not really an option - there’s always gonna be stuff you’ve not seen. I know way too much about relational databases (but if you want advice be prepared to pay for it).
I am an NMRA Master Armchair Model Railroader, and ultimate railfan.
I also know a hell of a lot about C/C++ programming, related to embedded software.
Some people (especially my sister) call me a walking encyclopedia.
I know more about fiberglass than any one person should.
And I have claimed in the past, and never been shown wrong yet, that I can teach anyone to write a sonnet. Not a great sonnet, mind you, but a sonnet nonetheless.
What great skills.

well, I guess I don’t have the most useful areas of expertise either:
swedish independent music
obscure super nintendo games
GID (gender identification syndrome)
…yeah.
Took me a while, I’m usually a jack-of all trades fella, but I figured out something I am an expert in.
Everquest, the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.
Aside from a wealth of tactics, I have an encyclopedic knowledge about quests, NPCs, and items found in the game. History, changes, armor, skills, spells, disciplines, classes, races, cities, zones… I could write a book. Many books.
This knowledge serves me no purpose but to impress other players, and help friends who also play.
I specialize in British Victorian painting, but I have a pretty broad knowledge of most periods of art history (Italian Renaissance being one of my passions).
I’m can talk fairly knowledgeably about certain religions and mythologies, with Roman Catholicism, Hinduism, and Greek and Celtic mythology. I’m far from an expert in any of these, however.
In addition, I can recite the lyrics to almost every song by The Cure and The Smiths–which served me admirably well during angst-ridden teenage years in the 80s, but are somewhat less useful nowadays.
Apparently, I can’t talk very coherently. That’s what happens when you go back and change your wording without closely editing the final post.
That should have read “I can talk fairly knowledgeably about certain religions and mythologies, particularly Roman Catholicism, Hinduism, and Greek and Celtic mythology.”
