What makes my TV do this?

I have a 28’’ GE television. Works good enough, I guess, except sometimes, it just cuts out (for one second) sometimes, makes a funny noise and then comes back on. If it was muted, the sound comes back on.

Other times, it makes a funny noise, same as above, but louder, and doesn’t come back on. When I turn it on, it is on channel 2 with the sound mid-way up, which is usually louder than I had it.

What causes this phenomenon and how can I stop it?

Sounds like a faulty power supply. The one in the TV, not the plug.

It is resetting to default settings each time. That’s the symptom, and the solution is bad power.

On second thought, it could be an intermittent power cord.
