What members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have you seen live?

I was surprised I had seen this many:

Ray Charles
Bobby Darin
Allman Brothers Band
D.J. Fontana – Drums

I had to look him up. Elvis’ drummer? Seriously? What did you see him do? Serve you in a restaurant?

According to Wikipedia: “On April 4, 2009, Fontana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the sidemen category.”

Snarky comment retracted!

Definitely saw:
The Rolling Stones
Simon & Garfunkel (my first concert – the 1981 free one in Central Park)
The Who
Van Morrison
Grateful Dead
Frank Zappa
Parliament-Funkadelic
Fleetwood Mac
Billy Joel
Eric Clapton
James Taylor
Jackson Browne
Miles Davis
R.E.M.
Jimmy Cliff
Beastie Boys
Rush
Linda Ronstadt

Honestly can’t remember if I’ve seen them or not (?!):
Buddy Guy
Bob Dylan

Almost saw (I know, only counts in horseshoes and hand-grenades):
Bo Diddley (I lacked fake ID – wouldn’t let me in the club)
James Brown (could have altered my family road trip plans to catch him in Barcelona, but failed to make it a priority)

Really hope to see before it’s too late:
Stevie Wonder

You never got to see *your own son *perform?

(Obligatory Cecil link)

I’ve seen:

Beach Boys
Allman Bros
Bee Gees
Stevie Nicks

My hubby saw:

Grateful Dead
AC DC
ZZ Top
Black Sabbath
John Pussycat Watermelon
Metallica
Heart
Nirvana

He is way cooler than me.

I’ve seen some, but not nearly as many as I’d like. All before induction.

Saw at same concert (different line=different concert):

Mary Wilson & Ronnie Spector

Crosby, Stills, Nash & The Band

BB King & Bonnie Raitt & Dr John

James Brown & The Famous Flames (FF is JB’s band, but they were inducted separately)

**
Seen at separate concerts:**
Pink Floyd
The Four Seasons
Buddy Guy
Dylan (from an adjacent parking lot  )

Edited to ask:

Who the hell is that? If he’s a member of the R&R Hall of Fame, he’s on a different list than I’m looking at.

He used to visit the people that lived across the street from me and he and his son played at an informal gig either at the church my kids went to or at some other non-paying affair. DJ is one cool dude.

The Beatles
James Brown
The Who
The Grateful Dead
Creedence Clearwater
Sly and the Family Stone
The Band
Al Green
B.B. King

Elton John
Allman Brothers
Frank Zappa
Crosby, Stills, and Nash
The Eagles
Santana
Billy Joel
Eric Clapton
Bob Seger
ZZ Top
Black Sabbath
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Van Halen
Dr. John

Dylan
Stones
Cash
Young
Bowie
Velvets
Ramones
Prince
U2
Beastie Boys
Public Enemy
Nirvana

That’s more than I thought I would, to be honest.

The Who

Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Prince
Pretenders
U2
R.E.M.
Rush
Peter Gabriel
Kiss

Rolling Stones
The Who
Paul McCartney
Paul Simon
Ramones
Buddy Guy
U2
Dr. John
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Nirvana

All of these were before induction, except for the Rolling Stones, who I’ve seen once before and once since their induction.

I’ve seen:

The Rolling Stones - after
The Who - before
The Allman Brothers Band - before
Pink Floyd - before
Crosby, Stills & Nash - before
Bruce Springsteen - after
Aerosmith - before & after
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - before
Bob Seger - after
ZZ Top - before & after
Black Sabbath - after
Lynyrd Skynyrd - before
Van Halen - before
Guns N’ Roses - before
Rush - before

I’ve also seen a few people who are in the Hall, but not with the bands that got them there:

Ringo Starr, with his All-Star band, including Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmidt of the Eagles
Stevie Nicks, on a solo tour

Paul Simon
Bobby Blue Bland
Aerosmith
The Ramones
Black Sabbath
Van Halen
Genesis
Albert King
Rush
KISS

Pretty much all before induction

In no order, dates in ( ) are approximate:

BEATLES 1965
Jerry Lee Lewis 1968
Simon and Garfunkel '67, '68
Who (‘74) with Keith
Lovin’ Spoonful ('67)
Buffalo Springfield ('67)
Tom Waits ('75)
Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys ('67, opened for The Doors)
Led Zeppelin '69
Creedence Clearwater Revival '69
Jimi Hendrix '69
Allman Brothers ('72) first tour without Duane
Frank Zappa (1970-75) 4 times
The Doors '67,'68,'68,'69 4 times (also once post Jim in '72)

It’s a snarky nickname for John Cougar Mellencamp.

Apparently, just one: Metallica.

Nobody is still reading are they? Oh, well …

Before:
David Bowie
The Ramones
Heart
U2
Billy Joel

Also, David Byrne solo, but not with Talking Heads. I saw the Beach Boys at Disneyland, but without Brian Wilson, so that doesn’t really count.

Everly Brothers
Johnny Cash
Jefferson Airplane
Linda Ronstadt

I was surprised to note that the Moody Blues were not there.
