What movie am I thinking of (beginning scene: tank runs over flower)

I’m thinking of some movie where at the very beginning, there’s a big open field of pavement and cement, with one solitary flower growing up through a crack. Immediately the viewer sees a tank tread run over the flower and crush it - symbolizing the ultimate dystopian triumph of fascism, or something like that.

What am I thinking of?

I don’t know. It sounds very Brazil-like, though I know it’s not. It sounds familiar but I can’t place it.

I don’t think it’s a field of pavement and cement, just a big muddy field, but it sounds very much like Short Circuit.

That could be it. Are they testing tanks at the beginning of that movie? I remember now that whatever movie this was, they were testing tanks at the very beginning of it.

I bet that’s it. They were testing the robots, but tanks were rolling across the field in an exercise to show how much firepower the robots had.

There were bleachers with military personnel, and a stage and that sort of thing too.

Yeah, that’s it. My uncle (only a few years older than me) was the lead vocalist in a weird synth-rock band a while ago called Go Johnny 5, named after the robot in that movie. That link is one of the only traces of them I could find online, but they used to have a website.

Oh god. Yeah, Brazil…Short Circuit…I can see how I’d get those two mixed up. at myself.

One of the most surreal experiences I ever had was being at a laudrymat in a Hispanic neighborhood, and Short Circuit was playing on the TV. Dubbed in Spanish. I can’t even describe how strange it was.
