What movie am I thinking of?

It’s a least 25 years old, maybe 30. Some terrorists break into a mansion and take dignitaries hostage. Their demand is an atomic bomb be detonated in England. Then some elite force of commandos go in and take the terrorists out. I can’t think of the name of this flick.

Theres another movie where some guys take hostages at a missile site or space center (I forget which) and demand some information be released regarding the Vietnam war (as to why we fought it). My memory of this film is extremely sketchy, so these details may be wrong. What was the name of this movie?

There was another movie where a scientist built an atom bomb in the USA. When commandos raid his place it detonates. I think that was a made-for-tv movie. What was it’s name?

It was called The Final Option, with Lewis Collins and Tony Doyle from the UK TV show The Professionals, plus Judy Davis, Richard Widmark and Edward Woodward. A homegrown terrorist group called The People’s Lobby, headed by a poor little rich girl (think Patty Hearst type), is infiltrated by an SAS soldier. Most of the film takes place during a hostage situation at an embassy.

It was from a pulpy paperback called Who Dares Wins. Loved it as a kid.

Film can be found here- The Final Option (1982) - IMDb

The second one may have been “Twilight’s Last Gleaming” Twilight's Last Gleaming (1977) - IMDb

Possibly Who Dares Wins for the first movie. It came out shortly after the Iranian Embassy siege and the SAS became famous.

Beaten to it by moirai! However The Final Option is the US title, as the SAS motto may not be familiar in America.

Was it “Special Bulletin”?

The Final Option. Bizarre. I was thinking of this movie just yesterday despite the fact that I haven’t seen it in over 20 years.

My guess is The Mouse that Roared, though the details are not quite as you remember them. As the Army of Grand Fenwick is making off with the quodium bomb, we see a mushroom cloud – but then a voice-over tells us that this is just to prepare the audience for what could happen at any moment.

That’s the one!

That’s it!

And that makes it three.

Thanks, folks.
