What movie should I rent tonight?

My husband and I haven’t really been out to the cinema in over 2 years. What have you seen lately that just blew you away. Recommendations from all genres are welcome. Thanks!

“Ginger Snaps” is a low budget werewolf movie from a few years ago. I’m watching the sequel this weekend.

“L.I.E.” is a movie about a young boy and…um…a pedophile. It’s from 2001. It’s sort of indie, but it’s really good. It’s a bit icky in places, but it makes you think.

“The Prestige”–it’s about magic, and oh so much more. I adored this picture. A great many plot twists and turns.

I enjoyed The Departed recently.

I also really liked the most recent Bond film, Casino Royale, particularly the sight of Daniel Craig in speedos.

I enjoyed Pan’s Labyrinth.

I second **The Prestige ** (historical/fantastic), and **Casino Royale ** (Bond, of course).

Also really enjoyed The Madness of King George (historical), and **Gattaca **, a nice, different kind of science fiction story.

Brokeback Mountain is sad but really, really good.

Wilby Wonderful is a fun little film about how a small town copes with scandal.

The Prestige, Children of Men, Ratatouille

Children of Men is good.

I really liked Hot Fuzz, although it is kind of violent in spots.

I also loved The Prestige, and *The Departed * and *Children of Men * were great as well.

For comedies, check out the hilarious Knocked Up, the funniest movie of this year.

For something action-packed, I loved 2005’s V For Vendetta. I also liked this summer’s Live Free or Die Hard, the fourth Die Hard movie. It was better than it had any right to be.

For a big, stupid historical epic war movie (that is cool and exciting regardless), 300 was everything it set out to be.

Mozart and the Whale was a touching love story that never got into that annoyingly saccharine-sweet chick-flick territory.

So don’t leave us in the dark–what’d you go with? The Prestige, right?

After you watch The Prestige, I recommend Zodiac. Just finished watching it with my wife and daughter. Well acted throughout (Robert Downey Jr. was particularly good); some cringingly laugh-out-loud moments at Jake Gyllenhall’s character in his descent into obsession, at least one leaning-forward suspense scene (wife had to leave the room for that one). We gave it a Netflix 5 rating - not easy to get from us.
