But if you do develop the varbles (and you call yourself dare_devil007_?) it’s a pretty good flick. You’re on your own with the vocabulary, but it’s nothing you can’t pick up from context, especially since Stranger used most of it above.
We need to evacuate Manhattan Island, erect 50 foot containment walls, mind all bridges and waterways, and have the perimeter patrolled by heavily armed guards, so that The Webber can’t pollute the rest of the population with his abominable musical adaptations of good stories. Let him make “Escape from New York: The Musical” in Manhattan Island National Security Penitentury.
That was just…awesome. Makes me want to read the novel again.
Someone mentioned Soylent Green, and I think that could be an excellent remake. Omega Man would be another good one.
A lot of sci-fi from the late 70’s/early 80’s is getting redone. Flash Gordon is already in the works. Stephen Sommers is writing, so I’m reserving judgement. I fear the essential fromage will be lost.
Crap. Now that I read that, you are, of course right. I had completely forgotten about the partial remake in the beginning, and even after you’ve jogged my memory, I still can’t recall much of anything about it. Shows just how totally forgettable that whole thing was.
The Great Escape is definitely a movie that is as close to perfect as you could hope to get. A remake could never even come close to equaling it. Let’s see, Tom Cruise as Hilts, Ben Afleck as Hendly, Hugh Grant as Big X, Pauly Shore as Ives . . . damn, where’s that vomiting smiley when you need it?
That came within a hairbreadth of being remade around 1997 as I Am Legend (the original title of the short story on which it was based). Arnold Schwarzenegger was to star and Ridley Scott was to direct.
