My cousin is a geologist who was born and raised in Canada. He was working over in China and married his wife Yo-Yo (she was born in China).
She is now expecting a child, but her and my cousin are living in Australia while he’s doing another geological job. The baby will definitely be born in Australia.
What passports will the child be able to apply for?
The child would not be an Australian citizen, assuming that neither parent is an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.
The child would be a Canadian citizen, provided the father has not renounced his Canadian citizenship by birth.
The child would be citizen of the Peoples Republic of China, unless it settles permanently outside China – and where it settles permanently is going to depend on where the parents make it settle.
