What new keys do you want on your keyboard?

Remove the unused “Scroll Lock ON” light and give me a
"Insert Mode On" light

No new keys, just a redesign.

  1. Move the “Insert” key away from the delete key. (I have a bad habit of hitting both when I just want to hit one.)

  2. Make the number pad always numbers. It’s a bitch when it gets turned off inadvertently and you don’t notice until you start looking for that long list of numbers you just typed in.

  3. Well maybe one new key. A “Home” key that actually sends you to your house would work for my long ass commute.

I did that long ago. I pulled up the keytop and placed a little paper cylinder around the base so it will no longer travel down.

I have also configured the keyboard as US-International so I can easily do the accented letters. I wish there were a program that would allow you to fully configure your keyboard though.

I don’t want to get rid of the caps lock, but there’s no reason for it to be in its present location. Move it up there with the other rarely used keys.

Basically, there’s no reason for keyboards to still look just the way they did on a teletype terminal.

I love the idea of an insert mode light and the software controlled labels.

Does know exactly what scroll lock is for? I assumed it had something to do with scrolling, but I turned it on and I scrolled the same as always. :confused:

If you could back up, then they’d never again have to say “Are you sure?”

This is for compatibility with auld IBM terminals.

It’s still used for emulators.

Not that anyone uses scrolling any more,
except some DOS and Unix system scripts

I’d be happy if my enter key worked as advertised. I press it
and the only thing that happens is I go to the next line. I haven’t entered anywhere.

I’d be happy if the Tab key worked like a typewriter, and went to a specific column, rather than just the next multiple of characters.

I also have no use for the Num Lock key. I always keep Num Lock on, so the key is unused.

I want one of these. I think 8000 characters would take care of everything I need to do.

Here’s how it works in Excel(and I think most spreadsheet programs), anyways.

If you have it on, the cursor stays in whatever cell it’s in, but you can scroll about the page and see what else is going on. That way you don’thave to move the cursor all the way to the bottom of the screen in order to scroll down.

Electrocute concrete would be a good addition, but I’m afraid it would wear out in no time.

I want a boss key that would switch to Pro/E while minimizing the SDMB. I get caught sometimes. :frowning:

I want a “Slap 'em Silly” key. When I’m on the phone with someone asking stupid questions, I want to press a key on my keyboard that would cause a hand to come out of their pc and slap 'em silly.

A friend sent me a photo of a keyboard with an additional key. It simpley had “fuck it” printed on it. I wosh I could post it to you all… does anyone know a way that I could do this without taking 15 hours to register my own homepage?

I need a new key called “Get A Life”, which shuts down the computer and locks if for 24 hours so I might rejoin the rest of the world for a bit :slight_smile:
