What nincompoop at Android thought the camera should be usable when the phone is locked?

This is one “feature” that pisses me off constantly. I bet I have deleted thousands of pictures of the inside of my pocket, because some developer thought that the camera function was somehow important enough that it should be usable without entering the password to unlock the device.

I absolutely understand the rationale behind enabling emergency calls to be made without the password, but for the life of me, I cannot think of a good reason that one should be able to access the camera without the password! At the very least, I should be able to turn this accursed feature off, but they apparently haven’t even the good sense to give that option! I have searched through the settings in vain trying to find the option to remove the icon from the lock screen, both the system settings, and the in-app settings (which are almost non-existent).

So, to whomever came up with this idea, you’ve no more brains in your head than I have in my elbow! And may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your private parts!

The reason is pretty simple. People take a lot of pictures and it’s a pain to enter your PIN for such a quick task.

I’ve had an Android phone for a while, never accidentally took a picture. How do you swipe it when it’s in your pocket?

Two words…Big and Foot…

Slightly related…had a decent electronic point and shoot…it died…but took damn good shots if you knew your photography…replaced with basically the waterproof version of that…

Damn that thing sucked donkey balls quality wise…before long the only reason I carried that thing around was BECAUSE…hey “BIG FOOT” level photo opp.

I have no idea how. I just put it in my pocket, and the next time I take it out, there is probably a 30 to 50 percent chance that the camera is active, and a dozen more pictures of the inside of my pocket are in need of deletion. It usually goes in my front left pocket, by the way.

I should still have the option to disable this feature if I don’t like it. It’s existence isn’t what is really pissing me off so much as the fact that it can’t be disabled.

You can disable the camera being active when the phone is locked. When the phone is locked, the default is that you can only view and access the pictures that were taken in that session.

I’d blame the manufacturer of your phone. I can delete the camera from the lock screen of my LG phone. Go to the item for your lock screen in your settings and see if there’s an entry to customize shortcuts. If I touch the camera icon, it takes me a screen that has a list of my apps and says “Delete shortcut” right at the very top of the list.

Here are step-by-step instructions:

I also have an LG phone, but there is no option to set shortcuts on the lock screen. Apparently the option has been removed from the OS.

The main question is what is pressing the button to turn on the screen. I assume you a turn it off before putting it in your pocket, so what in your pocket can press the button?

Coins perhaps? I don’t really keep much in my front pockets.

That explains it. You must have a G phone (G2, G3, G4). My phone is an LG Sunset running Lollipop 5.0.1 and I can remove the camera from the lock screen quite easily. It sounds like your phone received the 5.0.2 update.
