What, no "Wire" thread? (10/8)

How can we have gone 24 hours with no thread?!? This was a great episode!

I love how Prop Joe is manipulating Marlo. He tells Marlo that he had a hint that Omar was going to hit the poker game (because he sent him and got a quarter of the take!), and when Marlo asks why Joe didn’t tip him, Joe says, “I didn’t have an incentive.” So Marlo joins the co-op. Brilliant!

I wish someone would tip Omar to the Mayor’s game!

Prez is finally making some connections with the kids, although he completely blew it by letting them leave early on their first detention. “IDIOT,” I screamed at him.

I feel sorry for Kima, but Rawls is showing himself to be pretty damn clever, arranging the spin on the witness murder investigation. I loved how, after the mayor threw Burrell out of his office, Rawls firmly insisted that he is loyal to Burrell, while making it clear that he’ll do whatever the mayor wants him to do. He sure wants to be the next chief. Is that when his homosexuality will come out?

So much great stuff: Chris trying to recruit Michael; Bunny with his “stoop kids” and “corner kids;” Herc installing a (possibly illegal) camera to spy on Marlo and being made immediately; Carcetti’s meeting with Odell. It’s all starting to get going.

My favorite line: Norman: “Wait until he gets around the corner…now!”

I love this show!

I just got caught up with all of this season tonight thanks to on-demand. This is indeed stacking up to be a great season. I’m liking the story line and writing better than in the past (the past seasons were good, but this one is better)

Carcetti is in the “be careful what you ask for cause you might get it” seat.

Detective is behind the times - why buy porn mags when you can have all you want on the internet for free. I didn’t know they still published Club magazine…

I liked the “zombiemaster” stories the kids were spinning about Chris and especially how Randy really seemed to believe it was true. Sometimes its easy to forget they’re 8th graders.

I’m still waiting for them to return to the “Rawls in the closet” storyline. I’m wondering if it’ll torpedo his chances for the commissioner job, or the writers will continue to hold it in their pockets. I have a sneaking suspicion the missing bodies will be found before primary day…it’ll be interesting to see how that plays politically.

And once again, two steps forward one step back for Prez-bo. :frowning: At least he’s connected with Dukie. Looks like the classroom might get easy to handle once the “corner kids” are separated.

Sorry I missed this thread. I usually watch these eps on Mondays. This is defnitely heating up. As smarmy as Carcetti is, I’m starting to like him and pulling for him. Something I didn’t want to do.
Major Crimes is trying to be McNulty, Freamon and Greggs without those three! Not gonna happen.
I hope people are still watching the show!

Why do you think Tommy is smarmy? I think he’s an astute politician who’s trying to do what he thinks is right. IMHO, his most unethical move was not telling Tony Gray he was also going to run, so that Tony would enter the race and split the black vote with the mayor. But without that, Tommy didn’t have a chance. And he’s nowhere near as slimy as the mayor.

What I like about Carcetti is that he caught on to what Bunny was doing with Hampsterdam, even though he couldn’t support it politically. I suspect that when he’s elected (c’mon, we all know that’s where this is going) he may try to reinstate some kind of harm reduction program in the city. (This being The Wire, he’s doomed to fail, of course!)

But I don’t think Carcetti is a bad guy, and I’ve always liked him.

(I didn’t know until the end of the third season that Aidan Gillen is Irish!)

I can’t contribute to Wire threads anymore, such is my addiction that I’m a week ahead. I watch next Sunday’s episode the instant it becomes available On Demand.

I’m afraid I will let something slip from next week if I talk about stuff, since the storylines are so seamless.

Thanks for your restraint, Dooku. I have On Demand, too, but I prefer to wait till Sunday night. It’s just my routine.

Hey, has anyone else noticed that Brianna (Avon’s sister, D’Angelo’s mother) now has a job as Matthew Perry’s assistant over at Studio 60? Nice move up, Bri.

I didn’t know it until just now!

Poor Bubbles getting beat up, that was pretty sad. One of my favorite storylines is Cutty trying to connect with the kids. I wonder which way Michael will go?
I wonder if Colvins program will help any of the kids?

Don’t get me wrong, I love this show but it’s sort of depressing thinking about the way some of these kids live and their situation is so hopeless. What chance do kids like Dukie and Michael have?

I actually started to feel sorry for Bodie because he lost his corner. Then I though, wait a minute he’s out there selling drugs. Same with Omar, I keep hoping he doesn’t get caught.

I don’t watch Sunday. I’d catch it Monday if football wasn’t on. I’d catch it Thursday if Earl wasn’t on.

So, I watch it Friday and every week when I want to talk about it, the rest of the world is onto the next episode.

Anyway, the season has been terrific. I haven’t seen the episode that this thread is disccussing, so I haven’t read ay of it.

I have one theory: I think that they’re going to find about 50 bodies in boarded up row houses a couple weeks before the election and it’s going to destroy Royce.

Looking forward to tonight’s episode (last Sunday’s).
