What Non-Governmental Group was the Most Atrocious/Evil?

Greenpeace

(bolding mine)

Arab Space Traders. I’m ready for the TV show.

Yes.

The Tea Party is more atrociously evil than slave traders, Tonton Macoute, the KKK, and guerilla warlords that forced prisoners to bite off testicles of other prisoners.

:smack:

Do you even hear yourself?

Ok, Slave Traders, then KKK, then Tea Party, then whale hunters.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I assume your mention of Greenpeace was a joke, then.

You forgot the testicle biters.

Yes. Because nothing highlights extremism like…opposite extremism. This is absolutely unsupportable, or a really unfunny joke.

Testicle biters. Now I’m not so sure I should have started the thread. Oh, I can just imagine tonight’s nightmares…

I was going to go with the East India Company, but I suppose they weren’t really an NGO. Same with the various slave trading groups…while certainly evil, most were associated with governments or had other government connections. I guess I’d go with the KKK, which wasn’t really associated in any meaningful way with the government as far as I know (individual members were, but not the organization again AFAIK).

Some of the other responses in this thread have been hilarious btw (Blackwater? Tea Party?? Greenpeace…er, ok, maybe something to this one. :p)

Do slavers qualify as a ‘non-government group’. I am not aware they were a group, with identified goals and … stuff; I see them more as many individuals whom engaged in a horrible practice.

Well, you gotta give them points for creativity at least. I mean had you been asked, point blank, to describe a fate worse than death, could you have come up with “Witness people biting off some other guy’s junk before having their own junk bitten off, and waiting for your turn” ? While *not *within the throes of the worst bad acid trip of your life or mainlining whatever the guy who wrote Revelations was on ?

And that was only the opener ! After that they brought in the accordion players, and…

I’m sorry, I do not know how to process this kind of information without immediately withdrawing into gallows humour for sanity purposes.

The antivaccination league led by Jenny McCarthy is pretty vile. Responsible for pestilence and death, not to mention creeping ignorance.

I am surprised that De Beers diamond empire and the United Fruit Company have not been mentioned. Maybe they just have not had the scope of influence that other negative actors have had?

What about corporations that were on both sides of major wars, like Ford in WWII? That seems pretty evil.

What about institutions like the wall street trading houses that have created a paradigm where next quarter’s results are more important than anything else, including the workers, the environment, and long term viability of the corporation itself? Some horrific things have been done in the name of keeping stock prices up.

It is hard to create a list of bad actors like this because we are often comparing apples to oranges. There is a vast range in magnitude and type of damage the different kinds of NGOs can cause - is putting a million people in wage slavery worse than killing a thousand? Is causing a million people to loose the last 10 years of their life better or worse than killing 100 thousand young people outright?

Edit: also When seems to be important - taking slaves 500 years ago may or may not be as “bad” as some preventable industrial accident today.

Arms dealers. The kind exposed in the Nic Cage movie Lord of War.
