What old baseball movie was this?

I was in a restaurant and saw a few minutes of an old B&W baseball movie. Here are the main details that I remember:

  1. A young man is playing for Scranton, but his life-long dream is to play for Boston.
  2. He has a wife and a baby boy.
  3. He gets an offer to play shortstop for Boston, but he really wanted to play outfield. He tells this to the GM. He looks pretty down about the whole thing.
  4. He gives his Dad a call and it is said or implied that it is also his Dad’s dream that he play outfield for Boston.
  5. His Dad seems pretty happy and excited about the offer.

I could probably provide more details, but I suspect this is enough to identify the film.
