I’m talking about songs that under normal circumstances you might enjoy, but they are connected to unpleasant memories. I was just reminded that I can’t enjoy any version of Autumn Leaves because of the number of times I heard it as a child while at the dentist.
‘If I had $1,000,000.’ by the Barenaked Ladies. I heard it for the first time the night my buddy Graham died, and the worst of it was I kept thinking how much he would have enjoyed it. It’s a jolly, innocuous song by a band I otherwise like, but I can’t stand to hear that song because of its associations for me.
Too bad for me, cause it get a lot of airplay…
