In the 80s I bought tickets to see Frank Sinatra at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I paid way, way, way more than $200 per ticket. And I’d be willing to pay it all over again. No-one else could even come close.
As for living artists, Linda Eder tickets go for less than $200, but I think it would be worth twice that price if she promises to sing ‘Someone Like You’.
There are semi-confirmed rumours that Rick Wakeman is planning one last vast rock band + orchestra + choir finale to his career. Purely for the nostalgia value, and because I grew up with prog rock, I’d pay $200 to see this show, if it ever happens.
I’ve paid close to $200 for Def Leppard, and would glady do it again. I’d also cough up the green for Garth Brooks, Rush, Metallica, Weird Al, Paul McCartney and Brad Paisley.
Pink Floyd with Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple with Blue Öyster Cult
Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones
BB King and Buddy Guy ( !@#%!# SON OF A BITCH!!! they’re playing in Evansville IN on the 29th and I can’t afford the gas to drive there) unemployment sucks on yet another level of suck.
Tony Bennett and k.d. lang are playing at the Black and White Ball for the SF Symphony. If I only had $200 (or more) I’d spend it in a heartbeat. At his age, how many more times will he be touring? Just once in my life, I want to hear, live, “I Left My Heart…” and the two of them singing “What a Wonderful World.”
I just ordered presale tickets for Van Morrison at the (5,500 person capacity) Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL.
Before tix were available, price range was listed at $60-$350. Once the window opened, I put in a request for 2 @ $100 each, and wound up with seats on a “floor riser” at the back end of the floor, so I’m pleased.
On a whim, I went back in to see where the other price ranges would put me…$350/tkt puts me in the front 10 rows, $250/tkt is still in the front section but >15 rows back, and $200/tkt is 3rd row off the floor, middle of the venue.
Van the Man is my favorite musical artist, and I’ve had the opportunity to see him 4 times my life. As was stated in another thread, he is the epitomy of a hit/miss performer. I know this venue has a history of steep prices, but IMHO, this is outrageous!
Lots of bands, but I’d need a time machine, too. In fact, if I had a time machine, seeing my favourite bands in their primes would be one of the main things I’d do with it.
But I wouldn’t pay $200 to see anyone play. By the time a performer can charge that much, you’re paying to be in the same room as someone who was great decades ago.
