I have a first cousin who was a stewardess for American Airlines back in the 60’s. She met ALL of the appearance requirements current at that time. She quit just before the first jets came out.
Then, just after her 65th birthday (roughly 20 years ago), she got a letter from A.L. asking if she was interested in working for them as a stewardess again.
After thinking about 30 seconds, she wrote them back saying basically “…no thank you very much.”
Corporate retail tends to get good looking people. i.e. the people in the Twin Cities who work for Target or Best Buy are better looking ON AVERAGE than the ones working for Medtronic or 3M. Now, Medtronic and 3M are functionally engineering firms - so tend to skew towards geeky white guys.
AIUI, foreign airlines typically don’t have anti-discrimination practices, and so can hire attractive female crew, while American airlines have such restrictions, so typically have older, less attractive cabin crew, along with a lot of male flight attendants, too.
Flight attendants need to have good people skills. Being hot can certainly help with interpersonal interactions, but there are many other ways to deal with people that don’t require hotness. So there’s a correlation there, but there are still plenty of more ordinary-looking flight attendants, too.
It isn’t all of them but yeah, I have run into that myself. I have walked into more than one headhunter interview only to see that their receptionist was a 9 and then gone into the real interview only to find out that the (female) headhunter was even more attractive. I blew a couple of them because it was so distracting and I kept wondering if it was some kind of hidden camera joke. It is hard to focus on the questions at hand when your interviewer makes most supermodels look plain in comparison.
Women in high finance tend to be really attractive as well at least in Boston. Most of it isn’t genetic. They just take care of themselves, spend a lot of money on clothes and makeup and carry themselves well.
If you want to see the opposite, come to a high-tech manufacturing facility like I work in. The women there are very smart, competent and capable but we are a little light with the babes. There are still a few however. They can also drive a forklift, jump start your truck if you need it and lift huge boxes all day long.
Medical and dental assistants have a lot of above average lookers as well. My current dental office has a rotating stable of them as have my former dentists’ offices.
I had a badly scratched cornea a few years ago this became a problem. I had to go to the ophthalmologist every day for 2 weeks and his assistant, the one doing most of the care, was so attractive that it literally hurt. Every time she walked into the room my eyes would start to involuntarily open wider and dilate. That is the last thing you want to happen when you are in that condition because it was incredibly painful. I wanted to ask her to put on some baggy sweatpants, skip the makeup and frump it up in general to make the whole thing easier.
Came to this thread to mention military. I enlisted after dropping out of college, and managed to spend about eight or nine years in the Air Force without it occurring to me that folks were particularly better or worse looking than anywhere else, but after having it pointed out to me, the culture actively self-selects for this by having a labor force that tends massively towards younger folks and which has minimum requirements for physical fitness paired with easy access to medical care.
In short, the military actively recruits young fit people, and requires/helps them stay fit even if it does nothing for them staying young. Even a Colonel or a Senior NCO who’s been in for 20+ years will have spent most of that time on a fairly consistent fitness regimen, and I can tell you, I’ve seen some smoking hot Colonels and Senior NCOs in addition to merely physical fit plain looking ones (and a few who look like they literally had been through a few warzones, which, well, yeah.)
Libraries, of course. But you don’t realize it until the librarian whips off her glasses and lets her hair fall out of a bun and then you go “whoa, I never realized how beautiful you are!” Happens all the time.
All of the hygienists and receptionists in my dentist’s office are pneumatic blondes. I don’t know where he finds them all. I can’t even tell them apart.
Youtube vloggers? Though really, I don’t think you have to be super attractive to do that - your fandom just turns out to be people that think you’re attractive. One of my subscriptions is Mobile Tech Review. People in the comments flirt with Lisa all the time, and she didn’t become a nerd when her modeling career tanked.
At least for women, Chick-Fil-A seems to have above the average attractiveness for fast food workers. Too bad they aren’t open on Sundays since the way my brain works it is easier to make a rule of “no chick-fil-a ever” than to occasionally want them on Sundays when they are not open.
“I like my dental hygienist, I think she’s very pretty. Every time I visit, I eat a whole package of Oreos while waiting in the lobby. Sometimes she has to cancel all the other appointments.”

WOW! Thanks for all of the answers everyone! Personally, I thought everyone would call me a pervert or something for asking, I’m glad I asked this question on here
Leahcim,
What the heck are running stores? Like running rooms? And on that note, why does it seem like cardio equipment, like tredmills, elepticals, etc, seem to attract women to gyms. I’m currently in a old gym with one tredmill and eleptical, and there’s only like 5-10 women out of 50-60 men

I looked up the “type of bars” you were talking about and they’re literally called breastaurants. Check it out the wikipedia page and look at “see also”.
Host and hostess clubs, cosplay restaurants, butler cafe, maid cafes, bikini baristas, playboy clubs(if you can get in) are other good ones. It’s too bad most are in the Asia continent. Why do they always have to interesting stuff?!

Maybe it’s a stereotype, but aren’t most soda pop/beer delivery drivers are greasy men or foreign workers? Not familiar with this.

When you mean by university towns, do you mean also bars, restaurants, stores, etc, in and around the university?

Is “civilian administrative assistants to Navy officers” another word for secretaries? Is there “secreataries” for other types of officers in the military? Like secretaries for navy officers, airforce officers, marine officers, etc?
JerrySTL
Where do you happen to work Jerry?

“There are still a lot of FAs who go into the job thinking of it as a temporary measure to see the world and meet some well-heeled bachelors. The ones who quit when they succeed at their goal are overwhelmingly the cheerleader / model lookalikes. So who’s left behind to make it a career are the more ordinary looking. Some of whom age magnificently. And others of whom simple age massively. It’s a harder life than it at first appears. “
What do you mean by “well-heeled bachelors”? So men becoming FA, expect to meet some hot girls in heels? Or does “heeled” mean something else?
What do you mean by, “the ones who quit when they succeed”? Succeed at what exactly? Traveling a certain amount around the world? Is there a way to tell if one FA is one of these individuals? Any questions to ask them to figure this out?
Other general questions
Are pharmaceutical sales essentially pharmaceutical people who hand out pills at a Shopper’s drug mart, walmart, etc? Or are they receptionists at the average/common doctor’s office?
What do you guys mean by “technology/tech jobs”? Recruiters for programmers, animators, IT, etc?
Neither. They are employees of the drug companies whose job is to promote new products, and often leave samples and propaganda (I mean, information ) about them at doctor’s offices, and often provide other perks, like exotic vacations and dinners at fancy restaurants where you can also do continuing education. Until about 10 years ago, they also gave out all kinds of doodads, like coffee cups, pens, note pads, Frisbees, etc. I still occasionally see (and still have) some of these items.
We know it’s a scam, they know it’s a scam, but people participate anyway.
