We have many small birdbaths in our landscaping. Many are repurposed planters. Like when someone is given a cute succulent dish garden, but the plants die? They hold water nicely and are kinda artsy looking.
Please don’t consider a blowtorch, this is galvanized, which means zinc, which means getting it hot will vaporize zinc which can kill you if inhaled. I don’t know what levels of zinc vapor will kill someone but the blacksmith/metalworking world is full* of stories of people dying horrifically because they were burning off zinc without the right breathing protection.
- ETA: By full, I mean I have read a few stories over the years, but they were horrific enough to leave me very leery of burning galvanized coatings.

UPDATE: In the interest of science, I did buy a tube of silicone sealer that is made for aquariums. However, one of the properties of water is that it will find a way. So even with a fat bead of sealant on the inside and outside of the container and two days of drying time, there was still plenty of leakage. Slower than without the sealant, but not acceptable. Admittedly, I’m not good with hands-on stuff in the real world. I function better in the digital/virtual world. So I’m off to find something else for the birdies and raccoons to play around in.
Speaking of raccoons, this is from last night just after midnight. My fig tree is as tall as the house and has hundreds of figs on it. They’re not that tasty but the birds, squirrels, and raccoons enjoy them. And I get a kick out of watching them from my desk.
BTW, I highly recommend the WYZE camera ($35 from amazon). I have mine wired, so I don’t have to worry about batteries. I haven’t had one bit of trouble with it. Excellent video day and night.
