This thread is for other posters who’ve shown up time to time that you think are sock puppets. They aren’t around anywhere near often enough to just be regs, are definately not newbies, and their posting tone has a polished banter of someone who knows their way around here.

You know, posters who show up only very occassionally, to add name-based witticisms, or whatever.
I know there’s more, but I’m tired and my mind slips terribly so.
Bill Clinton was a genuine poster whom I have not seen lately.
I would not consider either of the first two to be “sock puppets”. They were not used to allow one poster to speak with two voices. GOD was simply used to interject humor into some of the weirder threads. EDZ0TTI was used to mock Ed. (The latter might be considered a sock puppet if he was providing supporting arguments for the actual poster, but I would not generally categorize that username in that way.)
I will admit to having one once… It was completly unmalicious and just for fun. I tried to develop a schtick for it… a signiture post kind of thing… it didn’t take off and it was pretty lame. I think it had less then 10 posts. That was a long time ago, way before the name change.
I guess admitting that is grounds for banning now… Hmmmm… shrug wouldn’t be my worst problem.
Other examples of extra screennames (so I’ve heard; 'twas before my time) were Dead Equine, who would complain about being beaten, and Lynn Bodoni’s “cousin” Vinnie, who worked in the reposession business. At the time that they were used, they were allowed, but since the rule was passed against multiple screennames per person (unfortunate, but necessary), they were all retired. I don’t doubt that there’s still a few sockpuppets in use, but nobody in their right mind is going to admit it, and if they get caught, they’ll get banned.
Oh, I’m surely not asking people to admit them. There’s alot of mono or very low count posters that are just surely someone’s plaything. I’m just looking for suspected ones.

Right after the board came up, even before the AOL board died, I logged on with a different ID. I don’t remember what the ID was, or what the password is, so I just re-registered.

In the past, we had posters who were obviously just a ‘persona’ created and used by a reg for humor. Lynn had one. Other people did too. They were not used for being a turd, and not for bad purposes, and at the time when most of them were being used, it was still kosher.
All I want to do is try to remember some of those old, fun puppets we had back when it was legal.
I, for one, would love to have a sockpuppet named “Homer’s Brain” but I don’t, because it’s not allowed. Jenny and Lynn and I have all talked about this before.
Like I said, I’m not outing anyone. I don’t WANT to out anyone.
Anyway, I think this thread needs an early death. It’s obviously not headed in the direction I intended.
I’d bet the mono/low counters just a) needed a quicker answer to a fact question, so went back to seach-engine mode, or b) didn’t get a chummy feeling, so went to a chat room. This place definately has a slow tempo- Ok I guess, but I’m not sure I’ll be back very often.
