Lederhosen. A must do.
Sounds like you’re good to go. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
well? what did you wear? how was the ride? do they like you?
Hey, sorry I’m a bit late posting this.
Everything went well today. The trip in went smoothly. I got there with plenty of time and got started on paperwork and such. There were about 150 new employees coming in for orientation today. The first day was occupied mostly on general information, security, benefits and things like that. Toward the end, we got broken up into smaller groups (~20 people) that we’ll be spending several months with as we go through our on the job training (the “Patent Training Academy”). The actual training starts tomorrow.
Yeah, but more importantly, were you appropriately dressed??
“Patent Training Academy” - the mind boggles.
Leather, latex, and brass spikes.
Business Formal would involves breaking out the gold spikes, naturlich.
If you’re actually interested, boggle this. (I expect that you’ve seen it, Il Palazzo, but if not, you might enjoy paging through the archives. Rest assured that most patent attorneys are not as nasty as some of the commenters, though.)
No kidding. I stared up and down about half a dozen times looking for the 'shop marks. Go Einstein!
To the OP: Glad you survived your first day!
Yup. The first day there were a few people in polo shirts (mostly tucked and some untucked), a few people in suits and the vast majority wore button up shirts (again mostly tucked and about half of these wore ties.) I guess I was in about the 70 or 75th percentile of attire.
Today, all but one of the suits had disappeared and most of the ties (mine included) had been dropped. For tomorrow, they’ve requested business dress so I imagine suits and ties will be making a come back. (I’ll be wearing my favorite pin-striped suit.)
As for the Patent Training Academy, it looks like it’s going to be interesting. We’ll be spending 6-8 months learning the laws and regulations of examining patents, studying our specific technology fields and generally learning the ins and outs of the job.
ENugent, I hadn’t seen that blog before. I’ll definitely have to give it a good reading through.
