Well I’m going back down to Florida to work again thi summer, so I have to give my current job two weeks notice. Its not a big job or anything I’m working at a CompUSA store. My manager wants me to put this in writing so I can leave in good standing and be hired again in the Fall when I come back. So anyway what is the proper format for this kind of thing? If someone could just give me an example I could paraphrase that would be nice.
(Your address)
(Store’s Address)
(Date)
(ATTN: Relevant Person)
Dear Sir(Madam),
Please accept my resignation from this position (whatever you do), effective from (date).
I have enjoyed and am grateful for the many oppurtunities I have enjoyed as (position), and trust that my resignation does not cause any undue convenience.
Yours Sincerely,
Pool
How’s that?
From what I’ve heard, that sentence sums up a CompUSA store perfectly
Anyway, just in here to second what Martini Enfield says. Keep it short and sweet, that way nobody can get offended by real or imagined slights.
BTW, that should be “undue inconvenience”… :smack:
And ‘opportunities’.
Note to self: Do not post whilst waiting for dinner to cook… :smack:
I agree with Mr. Enfield. In general, that is all one needs, and often the less said in the formal resignation letter, the better.
In your circumstance, however, I might specifically add that you are leaving because you will be moving away for the summer and that you hope for the chance to work for the company again. That way, if your current manager leaves and the new one pulls the letter up, he can see you had a legitimate reason for leaving and your intention to come back.
Given the sensible advice above, I feel I can risk this:
Dear Employer,
I’m off. I’ve had enough.
Nobody knows what they are doing around here, and anyway I never did enough for anyone to even notice that I’m going.
I’ve seen hysterical mobs that were better organised than this shower.
See ya!
P.S. Please could I have a reference?
Thanks…I’m late for work damnit.
