Worf in a tux with a martini…“Moug. Worf of the House of Moug.”
Actually, there was an Old game for the NES called Star Trek 25th Anniversary. It begins with the Enterprise returning to the Gangster Planet, but instead running into an unexpected tear in space-time, which throws them into to unexplored space(with a vaugly voyagerish premise). Eventually they manage to get back, and find the planet a wasteland. They find out that after McCoy left his communicator there, the Gangsters reversed engineered it and somehow managed to blow themselves up, causing the space-time rip. the Last section invovles Kirk and Co going back in time to retrieve the communicator.
Fun game.
Star Trek: Privateers
Not just space pirates, but a whole rebel culture. Their philosophy is similar to the Feds as far as the whole multi-species thing goes, but they like their freedoms a little too much to easily assimilate into the Federation Collective. They have no moral qualms about smuggling and providing protection or transport to fugitives or whoever (usually for a price). They don’t officially take sides in conflicts, but tend to only sell arms to who they consider to be the ‘good guys’. The reason they haven’t been mentioned in any of the other series so far is that they like to keep a low profile. Only rarely do they interact with the Feds (any generation you choose) or other ‘authorities’ and when they do they pretend to be ordinary traders. They avoid outward indications of a unifying ethos so that their ships and colonies will be taken as ad hoc collaborations and not as part of a larger more organized group. Indeed, there is enough internal conflict that it’s sometimes hard for the viewers (as in the know as they are) to see the forest for the trees, as it were.
I’m not seeing a continuous cast of characters. I’d much prefer some innovative writing. Like serious changes in the status quo due to murder, betrayal, ideological schism, etc… Or, perhaps, no overriding story arc–each episode could be a vignette that does not depend on previous episodes or set up later ones. If you don’t kill off at least a couple of well-known characters a season your being too formulaic.
Yeah, I miss Firefly too…
I like expanding on the “Lower Decks” episode idea. To me, that one was one of the most interesting of the later-season TNG episodes. Instead of the Academy “Dawson’s Creek”-in-the-future idea, we’ll have “Grey’s Anatomy” in space, only without someone boinking their superior officer.
Still won’t work. I hear Takei is firmly committed to his new project, Young Wet Bitches.
I think they just need to let it go for now. Of course, if they persist, I’ll probably want something about the military culture of the Federation- space marines, fighter jocks (if they exist), etc. The ‘Dominion War’ concept of DS9 was one of my favorites in any of the seasons. It beat the hell out of Gilligan’s Galaxy (Voyager).
Midshipman Kirk
I’m still waiting for another ST episode that features the Tholians.
There should be 2 new shows, one set exclusively on the holodeck, each episode has it breaking down in a new and exciting way…
and the other should be a Starship that can only travel through time.
That way they’d maybe get it out of their systems and we can hope our grandchildren get good “Star Trek”.
Yeah, like those Jedi Knights. Once they were mostly wiped out, their story was over.
Whatever they do, I hope they place it after all the other stuff they’ve done, so that they avoid all the insufferable plot placement of things people expect to see (first Tellarite, first Tholian, Mirror universe, whatever), so they can write new stuff.
Wishful thinking, I know, but that’s what we’re talking about here.
What’s the appeal of washing wet female dogs?
How does Orion Slave Girls in Space sound?
I just hope that, for your sake, you did not miss out on one of the single best investigative reports to ever grace The Daily Show.
Oh, my.
Star Trek: Retcon
In this anthology series, a rotating staff of guest writers and stars remake the suckiest episodes of the Star Trek series’ into passably good stories.
In the pilot episode, J. Michael Straczynski directs the remake of Rascals.
If someone can make “Profit and Lace” into even a passably good story, he or she would truly be a God among Men.
Star Trek: Special Victims Unit.
Star Trek: Turbolift Inspectors Unit.
The mirror universe would be cool. Even Enterprise had fun with it.
Something having to do with the Beta quadrant.
We’ve had Alpha (all shows), Gamma (DS9) and Delta (Voyager).
From what I read, Earth is supposed to be on the border between Alpha and Beta, but they always refer to the Federation/Klingons/Romulans as being in Alpha. Is Earth at the border of the Federation?
A deep space mission in the Beta quadrant. Sort of like Voyager, but they can contact the Federation, but it takes a while.
First episode. Something goes wrong in the holodeck threatening the entire crew. When it is resolved, the Captain decides to shut it down for good so it won’t happen again.
