What should Trump do about North Korean ICBMs?

NK missles are like a box of chocolates. You never know what they are going to hit.

Since not even NK is claiming they are operationally ready, direct strokes before launch seems premature. Something like a three day missile defense exercise conducted by Japan, South Korea, and the US Aegis class destroyers that conveniently has them in the area in case they need to do it for real seems like a good idea. Hey look that just happened.

If you look down to the end of that story both Japan and the US have the Standard Missile 3 with some anti-ballistic missile capability. The US, and I would guess that destroyer, also has the SM 6 with Japan and SK may be interested in pursuing purchase. It’s almost like they are  thinking about the developing threat.

Making reasonable preparations, monitoring progress of the NK development program, and continuing to develop capabilities to respond seems like a pretty good reaction.

We ought to trade the South China Sea of North Korea. Not for punishing Kim, for all of North Korea.

He should do a deal – a great deal – to get rid of those missiles and bring the jobs building those missiles back to America. That’s what he does, deals. So time to deal. It’s going to be a great deal.

Huh, I gotta hand this one to Trump: he ignored North Korea’s antics so thoroughly, and made so much other news, that NK now probably wonders what they have to do to get the worlds attention again. If they’re sensible, they wait until Trump is out of office. No one takes attention away from Trump. Not Beyoncés twins, and certainly not Kim.

Is there anything to be said for building another wall?

A year or two ago we had a poster here on the Dope who advocated a US strike on North Korea. He said, “There’s a risk that Pyongyang will hit South Korea in retaliation, but I’m OK with that.”
Assuming that he was an American, he was basically akin to a guy named Kevin saying, “I’m going to punch David. David will probably hit John in retaliation, but I’m OK with that.” :dubious:

Omg this joke is getting so old.

Well on the plus side it would finally end the 50 year old Korean war, liberate millions from poverty and being forced to live under a brutal tyrant, lead to a reunification of the Korean peninsula, and make China think twice about their aggressive expansion in the south China sea.

Joke? Old? “I can make great deals, beautiful deals” was 90% of the Trump campaign platform. Settle in because you’re about to get at least four more years of it.
