What song should everyone sing along to?

“We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine”

Oh, just Bugger Off!

…ya bastards, Bugger Off.
Fuck You!
Bugger off, ya bastards bugger off!
Fuck You!
Yer a heard of bloody swine who refuse to leave the trough,
Ye’ll get no more this evening, so ya bastards bugger off…

The correct answer is, of course:

I’d like to teach the world to sing

One of my all-time fav commercials is the (Coors I assume) beer commercial where the hippy guy is sitting in a bar full of truckers. He’s drinking the beer and looking at the cheezy behind-the-bar waterfall clock and starts singing, real quiet, “Rocky Mountain High, in Colorado”…and by the end (of course), everyone in the bar is singing along.

Everybody will sing “Rocky Mountain High [sup]hiiiiiigh![/sup] in Colorado”–if you play it, they will sing.

Happy Happy Joy Joy, Happy Happy Joy (Joy)
Happy Happy Joy Joy, Happy Happy Joy (Joy)
Happy Happy Joy Joy, Happy Happy Joy (Joy)
Happy Happy Joy Joy Joy. (babada daaaa-daaaa)

If I am ever in a place where everyone does that, please do not give me a gun…

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
words and music by Woody Guthrie

Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

I love it when people in movie theaters sing Johan Cage’s 4’33" over and over and over again…

The Star Spangled Banner

Where it began, I can’t begin to know when…
But then I know it’s growing strong…

Almost heavennnnnnn…
West Virginiaaaaa…
Blue Ridge Mountainnnns…
She-nan-do-ah Riverrrr…

Weeeeee are the champions, my frieeeeeends…
And weeeeee’ll keep on fighting, till the end!

OK - so now I have a vision of SSG Schwartz dancing down the hallway of his house ala Kevin Kline…

I like that old time rock and roll
That kind of music just sooths the soul.
Brother Love’s travelling salvation show.

If you ever find yourself on a bands’ tour bus, I think you are supposed to know the words to “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John.

Did anyone else say “Margaritaville”? (Or “Why Don’t We Get Drunk And Screw”?)

Personally I’d rather hang out in the bar where everyone sings

I’ll be your Dixie Chicken
If you’ll be my Tennesee lamb
And we can walk together
Down in dixieland

Did you mean “Summer Nights,” which I posted in post #14?

How about “Kiss” by Prince?

Buddy, you’re a boy.
Make a big noise
Playing in the street
Gonna be a big man some day…

TAKE ME HOOOOOMMMEEE
COUNTRY ROOOOOADDDSS
TO THE PLAAACE
I BEEEELOOONGGG
WEST VIRGINIAAAA
MOUNTAIN MAMAAAA
TAKE ME HOOOOME
COUNTRY ROOOOOADS…

True story:

I’m in 10th grade and it’s lunchtime, and the radio’s playing over the PA system in the cafeteria like always.

The opening chords to Aerosmith’s “Dream On” drifts over the tables, and suddenly the cafeteria erupts with cries of “Turn it up!” One of the lunchroom monitors complies, and soon every teenager in the room is singing along, jocks, preps, headbangers, geeks, cheerleaders, everybody, we’re all singing. Loudly and off key, so I noticed my biology teacher standing in the corner wincing, but we didn’t care.

“The Brady Bunch” theme song is another one everyone will sing along to, if somebody else starts it.

You have to start out with the tap tap stomp, tap tap stomp, first. There was an episode of Cheers where Norm was tapping his glass, and it spread out through the entire bar, down to Rebecca banging on a bar tray like a tambourine.

I nominate Delta Dawn…ahem. (ivylass climbs up on the bar)

Delta Dawn
What’s that flower you have on
Could it be a faded rose from days gone byyyyyyy?
And didn’t you hear him say
He’d be a-meetin’ you hear today
To take you to his mansion in the skyyyyyy?

You! Yes, you there! Give me another shot of tequila! I got another verse to sing!
