What sort of berries are these?

I just noticed that someone else coincidentally posted a similar thread with similar looking berries, but I don’t want to hijack theirs. The bush is in upstate NY, and I took the pictures yesterday, so this is what it currently looks like.

Looks like Black Chokeberry to me.

you eat yours first and tell me how it goes.

Sorry, you’ll have to find another guinea pig. I broke a berry apart, and it was almost entirely a large green pit inside surrounded by a small amount of pulp. I’ve been looking at the chokeberry pits, and those do look about right.

Just ate mine. Very astringent, much more than the first time I tasted it. I’m convinced mine are choke berries

Yes, that sounds about right, then. They sure as heck look like aronia, but your first description of their taste had me puzzled. I’m pretty sure what you got there is chokeberries/aronia.

The leafs look more like Cornus (Dogwood) to me, e.g Cornus sanginea, Cornus obliqua

Compare the leafs to those in this post: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=836009
