What sort of recipe would make a dish called Porkmanteau?

I forget where I came across the word porkmanteau, but I keep thinking that it should be the name of an entree. Possibly ground pork balls* with a filling that contains another protein. That’s in honor of ‘portmanteau words’. And there are already many recipes for cheese-stuffed pork balls, so it has to be something besides, or at least more than cheese.

The only filling I can think of offhand is turkey and stuffing. Does anyone have better ideas?

  • I think the ‘balls’ should be pressed into rectangles.

Bacon and apples.

Stuff a turducken inside a roast pig?

A portmanteau is a bag (e.g. a Gladstone bag), so possibly pork *inside *a pastry case of some sort. Pork Wellington, if you would.

One of my relatives makes pork tenderloin stuffed with sausage, wrapped with bacon. We call it the basausaloin, but porkmanteau could also be a good name for it.

I hadn’t considered apples. Now I’m drooling.

Hah! If my oven was big enough, I’d be tempted.

Ah. And the crust could be shaped like a portmanteau. Nice. I still think it needs a stuffing, but I like the idea of adding a pastry case.

It certainly could. And it sounds tasty.

Thanks for the ideas. I’ll probably be mulling things over for weeks, but I think I’ll be making at least a first attempt.

I think it needs to use Spam as an ingredient, since the name Spam may be a portmanteau of “spiced ham.”

Spam sausage?

I think you should be looking for some sort of variation on a Carpetbag steak.

Snerk! I’m starting to lean towards a stuffing of apple and winter squash. Spam might go with that as well as bacon. Could need a piece of pork, rather than ground pork. And the crust.

Oh, I want to try that by itself. That sounds delicious.

Hmm, I’m thinking of something like a turducken, you know Pork stuffed with a manXXX (or XXXman) stuffed with a XXXteau. Gotta be some foods with those syllables… let me google a sec… well, mangos and gateau?

Ohhhh that sounds awful. Would not eat.

Pork stuffed with Soylent Green. It’s [del]people[/del] man!

Manchego cheese and … something?

Not gateau, though.

Checking the rhyming dictionary:

dough,
crow,
roe,
sloe,
Bordeaux,
cocoa,
Merlot,
pinto (beans, I assume),
rhino,
buffalo,
risotto,
tomato,
potato,
oregano,
portobello,
sweet potato,

and actually, Manchego rhymes as well.

I already wanted to use dough, and both Merlot and Bordeaux would be easy to add. I think the sweet potato would fit with the ideas I keep coming back to.

Chateaubriande might work ??

Or Chateau Anything wine.
