This is a little embarrassing, but I was terrified of the voice that said “We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please stand by.” You see, when I was 4 I thought “stand by” meant the same thing as “stand back” and the TV was telling me to get out of the room!
One day, I decided to see what would happen if I didn’t leave, so I backed up a little bit, but stayed in the room. The message came on again. The TV knew I hadn’t left! AAAAAAUUGGGHHHHHH!!!
Not exactly the same thing, but I used to be scared of the Emergency Broadcast System. It came on TV when I was visiting relatives (I was about 6 or 7 at the time). My 14-year-old cousin grabbed me and pointed at the TV, which said something about a tornado warning. She was so scared that I just knew the sound meant some terrible event was about to happen. Even though we never got a tornado, that sound creeped me out for years.
